Who We Are

NETES is a not-for-profit Indigenous organization supporting the success of Indigenous people in Winnipeg. We offer adult education, skills training and employment services, along with wrap-around services such as daycare, student housing, and health and wellness programming. Rooted in community, respect, and Indigenous values, our work helps build a strong, thriving Indigenous community.

The Opportunity

Kookum’s Place is an Indigenous-led, community-centred early learning program that strives to support children and families through culturally grounded, relationship-based care. Our approach is rooted in respect, connection, and belonging, with a strong emphasis on play-based and land-based learning.

We are seeking a caring, dependable, and community-minded Child Care Assistant (CCA) to support Early Childhood Educators in providing high-quality childcare and daily programming. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting children’s growth and well-being in a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Child Care Assistants play an important role in helping children feel safe, supported, valued, and connected while contributing to a collaborative, team-focused childcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Early Childhood Educators in daily programming and classroom activities.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment.
  • Support children’s emotional, social, physical and cognitive development through play and daily activities.
  • Assist with daily routines, including meals, snacks, rest periods, toileting and transitions.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, families and team members.
  • Encourage respectful interactions, communication, and social development among children.
  • Assist with organizing learning materials, classroom set-up and activity preparation.
  • Support culturally respectful and inclusive programming that reflects Indigenous values and ways of knowing.
  • Participate in team meetings, training and ongoing program activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completion of or enrollment in the 40-hour Child Care Assistant course as required by the Province of Manitoba within the first year of employment.
  • Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR Certificate is considered an asset.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience working with children in a childcare, educational or related environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous (First Nations, Red River Métis, and Inuit) communities or culturally diverse environments is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting children with varying developmental needs is an asset.

Skill and Abilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to build positive and respectful relationships with children and families.
  • Understanding of child development and play-based learning approaches.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, patience and learning approaches.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and organized with strong time-management skills.
  • Ability to perform physical duties including lifting up to 40lbs, standing and sitting for extended periods of time, and responding to emergencies.

Additional Requirements

NETES requires a clear and satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to the start of employment. All checks must be dated within three (3) months of the start date.

Apply in person, online at netes.ca/jobs or by email at employerrep@abcentre.org. Please include the competition number in your application. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

NETES is committed to equity and inclusion in employment. Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous candidates in alignment with our organizational mandate and the communities we serve.
