Detailed Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Operations, the Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supervising the day to day operations of a multi-disciplinary team who provide Community Rehabilitation and Recovery services at various sites across Fraser Health; collaborates with staff in the planning, implementation and evaluation of services; participates on interprofessional/interdepartmental and professional committees to advocate for the goals and objectives of Rehabilitation and Recovery Services. Plans new and/or existing client programs and reviews and develops policies, procedures, and quality standards and/or activities. Responsibilities Coordinates rehabilitation and recovery activities at various sites across Fraser Health to ensure optimal use of resources and efficient use of department staff by methods such as preparing staff work schedules and adjusting schedules according to workload, facilitating resolutions to work problems and providing clinical guidance and advice. Oversees the interprofessional team located at various sites throughout Fraser Health by methods such as assigning work, conducting audits, participating in performance evaluations, assisting in planning staff training, development, and orientation requirements, and developing, organizing, and implementing in-services and education programs for staff. Collaborates with MHSU Clinical Managers, Coordinators, and other staff in the provision of rehabilitation and recovery services at various sites across Fraser Health; plans new and/or existing client programs by methods such as identifying service needs requiring improvement/advancement, collaborating with members of the interprofessional team for feedback, making recommendations to the Manager, Clinical Operations, and leading related change initiatives. Develops and maintains effective communication strategies and working relationships with mental health services managers, coordinators and service providers, applicable community agencies, clients, families, and advocacy groups. Facilitates strong working relationships and a cohesive interprofessional team by conducting regular staff meetings to discuss clinical concerns and by evaluating ongoing treatment and administration procedures. Participates on interprofessional/interdepartmental and professional committees by methods such as attending meetings, providing input, and communicating needs and concerns related to issues including processes, equipment, client care, quality, and workload. Collaborates with members of the interprofessional team to facilitate the resolution of issues and advocates for the goals and objectives of Rehabilitation and Recovery Services. Coordinates the administration of client services from a regional perspective including managing waitlists and referrals. Assists the Manager, Clinical Operations with managing designated rehabilitation and recovery agency contracts. Identifies, develops, and implements education/training needs of mental health agency staff related to recovery-oriented services, and provides training or information on relevant community training/education and resources. Collaborates with other service providers such as contracted agencies to ensure the standards of service provided meet regional and regulatory standards; participates in the review/approval process for new rehabilitation proposals, or other new contracted services, and prepares and submits recommendations to the Manager, Clinical Operations. Provides support and guidance to various committees involved in the provision of rehabilitation and recovery mental health programs and services. Applies a Quality Improvement approach to rehabilitation and recovery service delivery, ensuring attention to benchmarks, performance indicators, and research initiatives that build better practices and are in keeping with Fraser Health and Provincial Mental Health frameworks. Participates in the monitoring of financial resources allocated to the program by making recommendations and by reviewing facility/agency audited statements to ensure service provision in accordance with established funding allocation, follows up on variances, and makes recommendations on required adjustments to the Manager. Assists the Manager, Clinical Operations in maintaining information systems and processes for the assigned area; compiles, analyses and prepares statistical reports to identify issues and trends affecting the provision of services within assigned area. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education, Training & Experience Current, full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia as an Occupational Therapist. Five years recent related clinical experience in a mental health area including three years supervisory experience and experience working collaboratively with a variety of mental health community agencies, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and access to personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage. Skills & Abilities Ability to plan and direct a clinical rehabilitation and recovery program in a community setting. Demonstrated knowledge of current developments in rehabilitation and recovery in a Mental Health setting. Demonstrated understanding of the scope of practice of other health care disciplines. Demonstrated ability to serve as a role model exemplifying evidence-based psychiatric rehabilitation practices. Advanced knowledge of mental illness and its impact on everyday life. Knowledge of standardized assessment tools. Knowledge of facilitation of the implementation of an individual’s rehabilitation plan by matching specific supports, resources, and interventions. Ability to advocate for and assist in the process for clients to gain access to community resources and supports and overcome barriers to their access. Proven ability to function in a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated leadership and group facilitation skills. Ability to develop and maintain rapport with clients, multi-disciplinary team members and other stakeholders. Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Ability to operate related equipment including a personal computer and relevant software applications.
