Through our innovative collaboration with Ontario Tech University, we’re also harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence to revolutionize patient care. Together with our academic, community, and industry partners, Lakeridge Health is tackling the toughest health challenges and elevating the quality of care for the communities we serve.

Guided by our vision of One System. Best Health. and supported by a dedicated team of nearly 9,000 staff, physicians, and volunteers, Lakeridge Health is a proud member of the Durham Ontario Health Team (Durham OHT) and works in collaboration with the Durham OHT, as well as primary care, and community and government partners to foster a truly integrated, regional system of care. Lakeridge Health is seeking a Department Chief of Oncology and Medical Director, Durham Regional Cancer Centre, with responsibility for clinical, operational, academic, and strategic leadership. The program provides integrated, comprehensive care through a distributed model with many department members delivering ambulatory care and treatment in several locations across the Central East Regional Cancer Program (CE RCP) in addition to Oshawa, which serves as the Regional Cancer Centre and hub for the CE.

The Chief role, reporting to the Chief of Staff, is responsible for the professional practice and quality of care provided by the privileged staff within the Department of Oncology in a manner that is consistent with the Strategic Vision. The Medical Director role, accountable to the Health System Executive, is responsible for the co-management of the Durham Regional Cancer Centre with the Clinical Director in a dyad model. The Medical Director role will be partnering and leveraging the Quadruple Aim framework for health system redesign to lead and further develop this expansive Program and will be engaging and leading the privileged staff in the Department in the development and implementation of the goals, strategic directions, and academic advancement of the Program. The Chief and Medical Director is supported by Division Heads.

A trusted clinician and physician leader, the Chief and Co-Medical Director must be an outstanding collaborator and communicator, promoting the mission and vision of the Department Oncology and of the organization. The successful candidate will be supported to pursue faculty appointments with our Academic Partners and will be expected to facilitate the academic advancement of the Department members, including the support of research and education initiatives. Prior success in leading the development of Oncology education and research programs is highly desirable.

It is important that all of our team members have deep connections and experience to work with, relate to, serve, and support a diverse workforce and patient population. Therefore, we invite individuals who can clearly demonstrate commitment to lead and participate in equity work that impacts quality of patient care, and improvements in team experiences; along with the commitment and fortitude to push and drive change in these areas. The Chief and Medical Director will model a heightened sensitivity and awareness of inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, and anti-racism (IDEAA) issues.

Experience in leadership roles in complex health care organizations and / or regional programs is an important prerequisite for this position. The successful applicant must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and be recognized as a specialist by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent (such as CPSO recognized specialist with US board certification). Applications are encouraged and welcome from candidates from equity-deserving groups and with lived experience of marginalization and oppression.
