Job description
About Tourism Burnaby Tourism Burnaby is an innovative organization dedicated to enhancing the tourism experience in Burnaby, BC. We promote the city's vibrant culture, unique attractions, and exceptional hospitality, bridging the gap between local businesses and visitors. Joining our team means playing a key role in the growth and development of Burnaby’s tourism industry. Role Overview We’re looking for an organized and outgoing Consumer Activations Supervisor to join our team on a seasonal contract. In this role, you’ll help bring Tourism Burnaby into the community by leading our mobile visitor activations at festivals, sporting events, and community gatherings throughout the spring and summer. You’ll be responsible for overseeing on-site activations, supervising interns and event staff, engaging with attendees, and ensuring each activation reflects Tourism Burnaby’s brand and creates a welcoming experience for visitors and residents alike. You’ll work closely with the Senior Manager, Festivals & Events and collaborate with our marketing team to ensure our activations support broader marketing goals and deliver strong engagement. Working Conditions & Compensation: · Compensation: $40 per hour · Employment Term: Seasonal temporary position from June to September 2026 (approximately 4 months). Hours will vary based on the event calendar, with peak activity during major festivals and lighter periods between events. An estimated average of approximately 100 hours throughout the period. · Schedule: Primarily weekends and occasional weekdays. Early mornings and evenings may be required depending on event schedules. Availability for the majority of scheduled activations and key festival dates is expected. Tourism Burnaby will provide the full list of confirmed activation dates in advance so applicants can clearly see the expected work schedule for the season. · Benefits: This is a temporary seasonal position and does not include health benefits, vacation accrual, or other employee benefit programs. · Environment: This role involves working outdoors at busy public events, representing Tourism Burnaby and engaging with residents and visitors. Training and support will be provided to help you succeed. Key responsibilities: On‑Site Activation & Operations · Plan and execute the setup and takedown of the activation at community events and festivals. · Adjust layouts based on space, crowd flow, and weather conditions. · Maintain a welcoming presence and guide interns and support staff during each activation. Audience Engagement & Data Collection · Invite visitors to complete brief sign‑ups and micro‑surveys using QR codes or tablets. · Ensure accurate data capture and maintain organized records for post‑event reporting. · Share observations and insights from each activation with the team. Driving and Vehicle Stewardship · Drive Tourism Burnaby’s mobile visitor van to and from event sites, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. · Perform pre‑trip checks, maintain logs, and coordinate parking and access with event organizers. Team Supervision · Assign roles to interns, summer students, and support runners, ensuring they follow engagement prompts and our brand values. · Provide direction and troubleshoot on-site issues as they arise. Swag & Inventory Management · Distribute giveaways and manage inventory levels, keeping the activation kit organized and replenished. · Ensure all assets are cleaned and stored properly between events. Content Capture & Reporting · Assist with social media by capturing photos and short videos during activations. · Complete event reports and support monthly internal reporting. Required qualifications: · Valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driving record. · At least 4-5 years of experience in event activations, festivals, community outreach, or hands-on marketing roles. · Ability to manage on-site event operations, including setup, staff coordination, and problem-solving. · Friendly and confident communicator who enjoys engaging with the public and leading a team. · Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and able to lift/carry event equipment. · Organized with basic reporting skills and proficiency in MS Office. Desired (nice to have): · Familiarity with QR‑based lead capture and simple surveys. · Comfortable taking photos and short videos on a smartphone. · Knowledge of Burnaby’s community events and local venues. How to apply: Please submit: · Your résumé and a brief cover letter describing your relevant experience with event activations and your comfort driving a larger vehicle. Please also confirm your Class 5 licence status. · We welcome applicants who are excited about engaging with the community and bringing Burnaby’s story to life. This role may be a great fit for individuals seeking flexible, seasonal work, including those looking for a side opportunity or post-retirement role.
