Job description

Teamwork makes the stream work.

Roku is changing how the world watches TV

Roku is the #1 TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and we've set our sights on powering every television in the world. Roku pioneered streaming to the TV. Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.

From your first day at Roku, you'll make a valuable - and valued - contribution. We're a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.

About the team

The Roku Content Merchandising team’s mission is to enable users to discover, acquire and engage with all the amazing content available across the Roku platform and The Roku Channel. We partner closely with teams across the company including Content Operations, Product, Engineering, Content Distribution, and Marketing to build and manage delightful and relevant experiences that leverage both algorithmic machine learning and editorial curation, making it easy for users to get the best entertainment experience possible from their Roku devices.

About the role

The Merchandising Manager, Platform & Sports will be a key member of Roku’s International Merchandising team. Ideally, this person is passionate about movies, TV, and sports! In this role, you will help develop, execute, and drive content merchandising and editorial curation across Canada and other international markets, including Roku Platform experiences such as What to Watch, Featured Experiences, and Sports.

Ideal candidates are strongly analytical, innovative, and creative problem solvers, with excellent project management, interpersonal, and communication skills—critical to working successfully across multiple time zones. Must love working with movies, TV series, sports, and other content types to meaningfully contribute to our overall strategy and roadmap—including the development of new concepts in merchandising, product & feature launches, content verticals, and tooling.

Must have experience working with content management systems (CMS) and have a foundational understanding of the Canadian and international content ecosystem, inclusive of Canada’s sports landscape. This role requires a deep understanding of Sports leagues and their local and / or global broadcast rights. This role will be based in Toronto and report to the International Merchandising Lead.

What you’ll be doing

  • Partner with your Merchandising teammates and cross-functional counterparts to launch and manage content products across Canada and other markets
  • Create and execute on editorial plans for a variety of events, ranging from global-scale events like the Olympics to league-specific games
  • Be on deck the day of key events to manage game‑day merchandising operations across platform
  • Support content curation on platform experiences, including but not limited to, What to Watch, Live TV, Featured Free, and The Roku Channel
  • Create merchandising strategies for seasonal holidays and trending global and local moments
  • Pull and analyze data to inform merchandising strategies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members from Product, Engineering, Operations, Marketing, and Analytics to drive best‑in‑class curation across the Roku platform in Canada

We’re excited if you have

  • Bachelor’s degree in film, media, marketing, business, or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years' experience in media, content, or product strategy, with previous experience in Sports, FAST, and / or Live TV
  • Strong knowledge of the media & sports landscape in Canada
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Jira; Airtable and Confluence experience a plus
  • Able to work early mornings, late evenings, and weekends as needed
  • In‑depth experience working with content management tools (CMS)
  • Ability to multitask, juggling multiple time-sensitive projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, digital / tech environment
  • Working knowledge of analytics tools (i.e., Looker and Tableau), and able to make data‑driven decisions
  • Comfortable working with AI tools
  • Skilled communicator with excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills
  • Experience working with cross-functional teammates from a variety of disciplines
  • Ability to work independently, but aware of when / how to ask for assistance
  • French language proficiency is a plus
  • Our Hybrid Work Approach

Roku fosters an inclusive and collaborative environment where teams work in the office Monday through Thursday. Fridays are flexible for remote work except for employees whose roles are required to be in the office five days a week or employees who are in offices with a five day in office policy.

    Benefits

Roku is committed to offering a diverse range of benefits as part of our compensation package to support our employees and their families. Our comprehensive benefits include global access to mental health and financial wellness support and resources. Local benefits include statutory and voluntary benefits which may include healthcare (medical, dental, and vision), life, accident, disability, commuter, and retirement options (401(k) / pension). Our employees can take time off work for vacation and other personal reasons to balance their evolving work and life needs. It's important to note that not every benefit is available in all locations or for every role. For details specific to your location, please consult with your recruiter.

    Accommodations

Roku welcomes applicants of all backgrounds and provides reasonable accommodations and adjustments in accordance with applicable law. If you require reasonable accommodation at any point in the hiring process, please direct your inquiries to EmployeeRelations@Roku.com.

    The Roku Culture

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem‑solvers, which itself is a two‑part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
