L'Opportunité

Le/la Technologue en emballage est le moteur technique opérationnel (hands-on) des projets d'amélioration continue (CI) et de maintenance packaging chez Nature's Touch. Le rôle se concentre principalement sur les redesigns de sacs et de boîtes, l'intégration de nouveaux fournisseurs, les transferts d'usine et la mise à jour des spécifications à travers le portefeuille actif.

Relevant du Senior Packaging Technologist, vous interviendrez sur les trois niveaux de packaging - primaire (flexible film), secondaire (corrugué) et tertiaire (palletization et container loading) - en veillant à des solutions performantes, optimisées en matière de matériaux et efficaces au niveau logistique (pack-out).

Vous collaborerez étroitement avec les équipes Regulatory, Sustainability, Procurement, Operations et Supply Chain, contribuant à des décisions équilibrant performance, coûts et circularité.

Ce que vous ferez


Projets CI & maintenance packaging

  • Exécuter des redesigns et optimisations packaging (réduction de gauge, changements de matériaux, redesign de boîtes, optimisation de formats)
  • Participer à l'intégration et qualification de fournisseurs, incluant tests, revue documentaire (TraceGains) et recommandations
  • Réaliser des tests de performance packaging (seal strength, drop test, ISTA, top-load, edge crush, OTR/MVTR)
  • Supporter les essais en usine (plant trials), analyser les résultats et résoudre les enjeux techniques

Flexible film & packaging structurel

  • Développer et optimiser le flexible film packaging (laminate, co-ex, mono-material, sealing performance)
  • Valider la performance en termes de machinability, barrière et durabilité
  • Maintenir et améliorer les protocoles de test

Packaging secondaire (boîtes)

  • Développer et maintenir les spécifications corruguées (board grade, flute, ECT, dimensions)
  • Valider la performance selon les exigences logistiques et de résistance (top-load, edge crush)
  • Identifier les opportunités d'optimisation (sur- ou sous-spécification)
  • Assurer la cohérence entre spécifications, artwork et données GS1

Palletization & optimisation logistique

  • Modéliser et optimiser les configurations de palettes (TOPS : column, brick, pinwheel)
  • Valider l'efficacité du container loading pour les expéditions locales et internationales
  • Maximiser le pack-out (cases par palette, utilisation des conteneurs)
  • Documenter et maintenir les configurations approuvées

EPR & durabilité

  • Évaluer l'impact des coûts liés à EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) pour chaque changement
  • Intégrer les principes de circularité (recyclabilité, réduction de matière, mono-material)
  • Identifier des opportunités de réduction de coûts EPR sans compromettre la performance

Spécifications & systèmes

  • Créer et maintenir les spécifications packaging dans TraceGains et TOPS
  • Assurer l'exactitude, le contrôle des versions et l'alignement avec la production
  • Maintenir la documentation fournisseurs (COA, certifications, specs)

Support usine & collaboration

  • Collaborer avec les équipes en usine pour les essais, implémentations et résolution de problèmes
  • Supporter les transferts d'usine et qualification de co-packers
  • Participer aux analyses de non-conformités et actions correctives

Support NPD & amélioration continue

  • Supporter les projets NPD au besoin
  • Identifier et recommander des opportunités d'amélioration continue
  • Assurer une veille sur les matériaux, technologies et exigences réglementaires/EPR

Ce que vous apportez

  • 2 à 5 ans d'expérience en développement ou en technologie d'emballage dans un environnement de fabrication alimentaire, boissons ou CPG
  • Expérience pratique en emballage de films flexibles (emballage primaire) en environnement manufacturier (usine)
  • Expérience de travail en milieu de production / usine
  • Expérience démontrée en résolution de problèmes sur le plancher de production, incluant les changements de formats (changeovers) et les enjeux liés aux films flexibles
  • Expérience en amélioration continue (CI) appliquée à l'emballage (efficacité, réduction des pertes, performance)
  • Formation postsecondaire en emballage, science des aliments, matériaux, technologie chimique ou domaine connexe
  • Maîtrise avancée d'Excel pour l'analyse de données et utilisation d'outils d'IA (ex. ChatGPT, Claude) pour la documentation, l'analyse ou le soutien aux processus
  • Une exposition à des outils comme TOPS, TraceGains, Monday, ArtiosCAD / Esko (ou équivalent) est un atout important
  • Bilinguisme français et anglais
  • Expérience en essais, validation et tests d'emballage (résistance des scellés, ISTA, top-load, etc.) - atout
  • Exposition à l'emballage secondaire (cartons) et à la palettisation - atout

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Packaging Technologist, the Packaging Technologist is the hands-on technical driver of CI and maintenance packaging projects at Nature's Touch. The role focuses on bag and box redesigns, supplier onboarding, facility transfers, and specification updates across the active portfolio.

You will work across all packaging tiers - primary (flexible film), secondary (corrugated), and tertiary (palletization and container loading) - ensuring packaging solutions are technically sound, material-efficient, and optimized for pack-out and logistics performance.

You will collaborate closely with Regulatory, Sustainability, Procurement, Operations, and Supply Chain, contributing to packaging decisions that balance performance, cost, and circularity.

What You'll Do


CI & Maintenance Packaging Projects

  • Execute packaging redesigns and optimizations (film gauge reduction, material changes, box redesigns, format improvements)
  • Support supplier onboarding and qualification, including testing, documentation review (TraceGains), and recommendation reports
  • Conduct packaging performance testing (seal strength, drop, ISTA, top-load, edge crush, OTR/MVTR)
  • Support plant trials, collect performance data, and troubleshoot packaging issues

Flexible Film & Structural Packaging

  • Develop and optimize flexible film packaging (laminate, co-ex, mono-material structures, sealing performance)
  • Validate packaging against machinability, barrier performance, and durability requirements
  • Maintain testing protocols and contribute to the continuous improvement of methodologies

Box Specifications & Secondary Packaging

  • Develop and maintain corrugated packaging specifications (board grade, flute, ECT, dimensions)
  • Validate performance using top-load, edge crush, and logistics requirements
  • Identify over- or under-specification and drive optimization opportunities
  • Ensure alignment between specifications, artwork, and GS1 data

Palletization & Pack-Out Optimization

  • Model and optimize pallet configurations using TOPS (column, brick, pinwheel)
  • Validate container loading efficiency for domestic and international shipments
  • Ensure packaging decisions maximize cases per pallet and container utilization
  • Document and maintain pallet and container configurations

EPR & Sustainability Integration

  • Evaluate EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) cost impact for all material and format changes
  • Integrate circularity principles (recyclability, material reduction, mono-material structures) into all projects
  • Identify opportunities to reduce EPR costs while maintaining performance and pack-out efficiency

Packaging Specifications & Systems

  • Create and maintain packaging specifications in TraceGains and TOPS
  • Ensure all changes are accurate, version-controlled, and aligned with production requirements
  • Maintain supplier documentation (COAs, certifications, specs) and audit readiness

Plant & Cross-Functional Support

  • Partner with plant teams to support line trials, troubleshooting, and implementation
  • Support facility transfers and co-packer qualification
  • Investigate packaging-related quality issues and contribute to corrective actions

NPD Support & CI Initiatives

  • Provide technical support to NPD projects when required
  • Identify and recommend continuous improvement opportunities across the portfolio
  • Stay current on materials, packaging technologies, and regulatory/EPR developments

What You Bring

  • 2-5 years of experience in packaging development or packaging technology within food, beverage, or CPG manufacturing environments
  • Hands-on experience with flexible film packaging (primary packaging) in a manufacturing plant environment
  • Experience working in a manufacturing facility (plant environment)
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting packaging issues on the floor, including machine changeovers and flexible film performance
  • Experience contributing to continuous improvement (CI) initiatives related to packaging (efficiency, waste reduction, performance)
  • Post-secondary education in Packaging, Food Science, Materials, Chemical Technology, or a related field
  • Advanced Excel for data analysis and reporting, and practical use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) for documentation, analysis, or workflow support;
  • Exposure to tools such as TOPS, TraceGains, Monday, ArtiosCAD / Esko (or equivalent) is a strong asset
  • Bilingual in English and French
  • Experience with packaging trials, validation, and testing (seal strength, ISTA, top-load, etc.) - nice to have
  • Exposure to secondary packaging (cartons) and palletization - nice to have
  • Knowledge of flexible film properties (COF, OTR, MVTR, laminates, co-ex structures) - nice to have
