JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for 11 dynamic, strategic and results-driven professionals to join our team in the role of Senior Technical Engineer/Officer.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Design Engineering, these positions will involve technical, strategic, and/or commercial activities related to deploying potential new large nuclear facilities at Wesleyville and other OPG strategic sites.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Prepare scopes of work, calculations, design bills of material and other design documentation related to the development, design, and construction of a nuclear power plant.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to specify design requirements and accept design related project deliverables.
  • Provide technical, strategic, business and commercial advice, guidance, and support to the management.
  • Leverage commercial capabilities and knowledge in the sustainable energy industry, to provide strategic direction to OPG leadership.
  • Author and maintain written documented processes and procedures related to the development, design, and construction of a nuclear power plant.
  • Gather input from stakeholder departments and agencies to ensure project requirements are captured and detailed in the project documents.
  • Engage in correspondence with various regulatory bodies including the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).
  • Provide active support to field issues and facilitate a positive outcome with Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) vendor partners.
  • Understand impacts on cost and schedule and provide support to minimize impacts driving projects.
  • Maintain process compliance during project execution.

Technology Reviews & Design (9 positions)

  • Establish the early phases of a new nuclear design project, including the planning and enabling of a technology vendor to complete engineering work, as well as working with legal and business development stakeholders to manage and negotiate commercial terms related to supporting future new nuclear projects, studies and other related work.
  • Prepare, execute and oversee scopes of work with technology vendors and other engineering vendors related to studies supporting the development of new nuclear technologies.
  • Exercise and apply a broad understanding of current global new nuclear developments as it relates to performing analyses on types of technologies, licensing and regulatory frameworks, new nuclear construction projects, nuclear financial modeling, supply chain readiness and commercial deployment models.

New Nuclear Feasibility & Assessment (2 positions)

  • Provide engineering support to the New Nuclear at Wesleyville (NNW) license to prepare site and impact assessment process as well as other strategic sites.
  • Provide engineering support for scopes including geotechnical, impact assessment, development of site layouts, electrical grid connection & distribution, site evaluation and hazard assessment. site infrastructure, regulations/codes/standards.
  • Interface with other teams supporting NNW/strategic sites such as: New Nuclear Technologies. New Nuclear Development Projects, Environment, Regulatory Affairs, Indigenous Relations and Partnerships.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Experience with the design, construction, and/or licensing of nuclear or conventional power plants.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Canada's Impact Assessment (IA) process or Environmental Assessment (EA) process.
  • Experience with site environmental, geological, seismic, hydrological, and/or meteorological studies related to large infrastructure project implementation.
  • Experience in nuclear safety hazard assessment and mitigation.
  • Experience engaging in correspondence with various regulatory bodies including the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).
  • Knowledge of the Ontario electrical system and the interfacing of its stakeholders (IESO, Hydro One, OPG).
  • Experience specifying and managing contracts with external engineering firms
  • Experience acquiring permits for industrial construction projects.
  • Knowledge of or experience with a variety of advanced nuclear reactor technologies.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario
