Job description

We are committed to connecting Canadians through unique partnerships, our world-class network and content Canadians love—and our innovative team is growing. We are looking for dedicated team members to join our Corporate team who have a genuine passion for making positive impacts on customers and the communities where we live and work. We have a variety of business units with exciting and meaningful work waiting for you, including Communications, HR, Legal and Corporate Affairs, Supply Chain, Finance, and Real Estate. If you are considering your next step, we have exciting opportunities waiting for you. Come build a rewarding career at Rogers and be a driving force behind our success story!

Rogers Communications Inc. is Canada’s national communications company, engaged in three primary lines of business – wireless, cable and media. The legal department, which is comprised of about 60 legal professionals, advises on some of the most challenging and cutting-edge issues facing the telecommunications and media industries in Canada.

What you'll be doing:

Reporting to the Senior Counsel, Consumer, based in Toronto, the Legal Counsel will join a collaborative team of legal professionals providing legal advice on a wide range of consumer matters, with a focus on consumer/marketing law.

• You will be principally responsible for providing legal and strategic support to the Rogers consumer business, which delivers wireless and residential services to Canadians from coast to coast. Such work will include reviewing customer-facing marketing materials, drafting legal terms/disclaimers and overseeing the consumer contracting process.
• You will also support our product teams responsible for launching new consumer programs, working with cross-functional teams at the forefront of building and maintaining Rogers’ telecommunications business.
• You will also support our digital teams responsible for consumer marketing and buy flows, ensuring compliance with consumer laws, competition law, and implementing best practices for digital marketing and contracting.
• You will also keep up to date with new legislative developments in consumer/marketing law and advise the business accordingly.

What we are looking for:

This is a position based in the Rogers Toronto office. The successful candidate must be a member of the Law Society of Ontario and have:
• 2-3 years of corporate/commercial experience gained in private practice and/or in-house;
• experience with marketing/advertising law, provincial consumer protection laws and/or marketing competition law;
• a client-focused approach with the ability to provide practical business-oriented legal advice;
• ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities;
• strong interpersonal skills and a team player;
• ability to distill complex legal issues into simple terms and advise internal stakeholders accordingly;
• experience in the telecommunications industry and familiarity with federal consumer codes is an asset;
• French language skills are an asset, but not required.

What's in it for you?

We believe in investing in our people and helping them reach their potential as valuable members of our team. As part of our team, you’ll have access to a wide range of incredible resources, growth opportunities, discounts, and perks, including:
• Discounts: Enjoy up to 50% off Rogers Services and Blue Jays Tickets, 25% off TSC items, and a 20% discount on all wireless accessories sold in Rogers stores.
• Company matching contributions to charities you support Growth & Development Opportunities
• Self-driven career development programs (E.g. MyPath program)
• Rogers First: priority in applying to internal roles of interest

Wellness Programs:
• Homewood employee & family assistance program
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) & Virtual therapy sessions
• Low or no-cost fitness membership

Our commitment to the environment and diversity:
• Work for an organization committed to environmental protection
• Strong commitment to diversity and inclusion with employee resource groups supporting equity-deserving groups including groups representing People of Colour, 2SLGBTQIA+, Indigenous Peoples, Persons with Disabilities and Women. We all bring something different, and we know what makes us different makes us great.

To protect our people, brand and assets, a pre-employment background check will be conducted. As part of our selection process, all candidates must clear a criminal background check. Additionally, a credit check and drivers abstract may be required depending on the role.

Schedule: Full time
Shift: Day
