Reporting to South Interlake Regional Library Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all library operations and services in accordance with policies established by the Board. The ED advises the Board, serves as Secretary to the Board, and acts as the Board’s representative to the public, professional associations, funders and government agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Policy and Planning

  • Carries out Board policies and
  • Advises the Board on matters of
  • Develops procedures for the implementation of Board policies and
  • Reviews existing policies and recommends changes or additions to meet the goals and objectives of the library and that of the community for library services and

Human Resources

  • Recruits, hires, trains, manages, and evaluates staff within approved
  • Oversees the development and implementation of effective practices for volunteer recruitment, training, and
  • Hold responsibility for all operations, including compliance with relevant legislation and organization policies and procedures
  • Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates library staffing, and services to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the
  • Oversees organizational
  • Finance

  • Performs the financial administration of the library to ensure cost-effectiveness of services and operations within the approved
  • Prepares and administers the annual operating and capital budgets of the
  • Searches for, applies for, and administers
  • Oversees the bookkeeper
  • Oversees payroll including ROAs and T4’s.
  • Oversees the issuance of charitable tax
  • Oversees the administration of the Municipal Employees Benefits Program and ensures all deductions are calculated properly for monthly
  • Familiarity working with accounting and payroll software (e.g. QuickBooks, Dayforce).
  • Completes library bookkeeping as
  • Advocacy

  • Acts as the professional face for the
  • Develops and maintains an effective public relations program to inform the public about the library and its services using a variety of
  • Develops relationships with key external
  • Responds to patrons’ suggestions, problems, and
  • Reports regularly to the Board, government officials, and the general

  • Oversees the operation and maintenance of the library’s physical facilities and capital
  • Provides administrative services to the Board as
  • Acts as a liaison with the Public Libraries Services Branch and other professional
  • Keeps abreast of technological changes and new developments in public

    Reports to the Library

  • Supervises all Branch Librarians, Technical Services / Administrative Assistant and any applicable office staff. May be responsible for supervising volunteers or additional staff on certain
  • HOURS OF WORK

    The Director will work a 35-hour week with hours generally being 8 : 30 am to 4 : 30 pm. Monday through Friday, with one hour off for lunch. The Director attends all Board and Committee meetings.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Five (5) years of leadership and management

  • Demonstrated experience in financials, budgeting and human resource
  • A post-secondary degree in Library Science, Business Administration or equivalent experience is an
  • Has an enthusiasm and an appreciation of reading and literacy. An understanding of how libraries and their systems function would be considered an
  • Satisfactory employment
  • SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams,

  • Exemplary leadership skills including building and motivating a
  • Experienced with strategic planning and operationalization of strategic plans.
  • Critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving
  • Strong planning and time management
  • Demonstrated self-start ability to work independently and as a member of a
  • Must be able to exercise initiative and independent judgement in determining work
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to professionally communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with staff, stakeholders, outside organizations and the public is
  • Ability to use and understand
  • Ability to use and understand accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks).
  • Experience in public service, engaging with local, provincial and federal stakeholders is an asset.

  • COMPENSATION

    The salary range for this position starts at $74,045. The successful candidate will participate in the Municipal Employees Benefit Program, which consists of pension, long term disability and basic life insurance. CLOSING DATE : DECEMBER 31, 2025.
