About the Position

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the IS student will support several structured initiatives within Information Services that both enhance the City’s technology environment and provide meaningful learning opportunities in municipal IT operations. The student will also assist in the documentation of IS processes and the decommissioning of old technology assets.

Co-op Term: 4-month term, September – December

Duties & Responsibilities

The duties listed are not meant to provide a description of each and every job performed but only those which represent the core functions of the job.
Assist with logging, tracking, and responding to basic IT support requests while providing customer service to staff.
Support software installation, computer setup, and other routine technical tasks under the guidance of IT staff.
Assist with maintaining user account information and updates in Active Directory.
Help maintain inventories of IT assets, including computers, printers, mobile devices, tablets, and other equipment.
Support software asset tracking by updating inventory records, licensing information, and renewal dates.
Assist with gathering information and maintaining documentation related to applications, databases, and business processes.
Help prepare equipment for redeployment or disposal, including inventory tracking and data wiping activities in accordance with established procedures.
Assist with coordinating and documenting the disposal, recycling, or auction of obsolete equipment.
Support the development and maintenance of IT procedures, knowledge base articles, user guides, and Service Desk documentation.
Perform administrative tasks, data entry, special projects, and other related duties as assigned.

What you need to Succeed...

Enrolled in post-secondary studies in Computer Science, Information Technology or Computer Programming.
Ability to work with a variety of computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Basic understanding of networking concepts (e.g., Wi-Fi troubleshooting, IP addresses, cables).
Understanding of computer hardware components, setups and troubleshooting.
The ability to work independently and with little supervision as well as cooperatively in a team environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Salary and Benefit Information

$21.48/hour (2026 rate) plus OMERS pension is available
