Job descriptionPlan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals according to dietary requirements and menu plans, ensuring standards are met. Serve meals at appropriate temperatures and in a timely manner. Assist with serving meals to residents, respecting their food preferences. Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and handling. Collaborate with dietary staff to develop resident-friendly menus. Assist the Food and Nutrition Manager with controlling food costs, waste, and orders. Monitor food inventory and communicate needs for supplies. Ensure compliance with Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including equipment and utensils. Support with special events and catering as needed. Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements. Chef / Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal. Food Handler's Certificate (up-to-date). Experience in long-term care or with seniors preferred; experience in institutional, healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality settings accepted. Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 6 months. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination per Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care policy. Sincere interest in working with the elderly and sensitivity to their needs. Ability to handle physical aspects like bending, standing, lifting, working in various temperatures, and working safely. Ability to multitask and complete routines within schedules. Flexibility and adaptability in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
