Located in Hamilton’s downtown core, the Satellite Health Facility (SHF) team provides care for low acuity and Alternate Level of Care (ALC) patients. Generally, patients transferred from other HHS sites to the SHF are waiting for: Home with Home Care supports, Transitional Care, Long-Term Care or require time to convalesce after an acute care admission. The SHF team is critical to achieving HHS’ vision of “Best Care for All” – supporting HHS patients to receive the right care in the right place!
Position Summary
As a member of the Satellite Health Facility, the Healthcare Aide provides clinical support, in patient care areas. Functions according to the job description for Healthcare Aides.
Schedule Work Hours
12 Hour shifts rotating Days, nights, weekends and holidays.
This position is temporary until March 2027.
Qualifications
1. Personal Support Worker or Health Care Aide Certificate, or nursing student with successful completion of all Level 2 courses of an accredited BScN program, or successful completion of semester 2 courses of a Practical Nursing program, which extends to include Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs). Personal Support Workers (known as HCA in HHS) in Ontario must be trained to the standards approved by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and Ontario Community Support Association (OCSA). HHS will consider all applicants but will give preference to hiring HCAs who have obtained their certificate from an Accredited Program.
2. Adhere to HHS’ Values Based Code of Conduct and behavioral expectations of all staff at HHS.
3. Documenting according to HHS policies and procedures.
4. Demonstrated knowledge, skill initiative and judgement to accept the tasks assigned and ensuring to perform them safely, effectively and ethically.
5. Reporting observations and patient information to the primary HCP, when required. Notifying the HCP if there is a change in patient’s status and if/when they need assistance.
6. Reporting equipment concerns and environmental safety concerns.
7. Computer familiarity or willingness to learn computer skills as required.
8. Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, teamwork skills.
9. Ability to set priorities and organize work accordingly.
10. Ability to deal with various hospital departments effectively and collaboratively.
11. Ability to lift using appropriate lifting techniques and bend, push and pull using good body mechanics.
