Job description

We are committed to connecting Canadians through unique partnerships, our world-class network and content Canadians love—and our innovative team is growing. We are looking for dedicated team members to join our Corporate team who have a genuine passion for making positive impacts on customers and the communities where we live and work. We have a variety of business units with exciting and meaningful work waiting for you, including Communications, HR, Legal and Corporate Affairs, Supply Chain, Finance, and Real Estate. If you are considering your next step, we have exciting opportunities waiting for you. Come build a rewarding career at Rogers and be a driving force behind our success story!

As a key member of the Rogers Sports & Media Human Resources team, the Labour Relations Specialist plays a pivotal role supporting a dynamic, fast-paced Sports & Media business. This role provides strategic and hands-on support across Labour Relations and broader HR advisory work to foster a consistent, fair, and legally compliant workplace while driving organizational performance and a high performance, inclusive culture. This position is open to candidates located in Vancouver, as well as Calgary.

What You’ll Do:
• Provide day-to-day interpretation, administration, and application of multiple collective agreements (e.g., seniority, job postings, layoff/recall, overtime, premiums).
• Manage grievance processes end-to-end: intake, investigation, response drafting, settlement discussions, and progression through arbitration as required.
• Lead arbitration case preparation, including file development, evidence gathering and review, document production, and witness identification and preparation; liaise with external counsel; represent the company at hearings and mediations.
• Support collective bargaining preparation and execution: analyze data, develop proposals/counter-proposals, participate in negotiations, and maintain rigorous records and costing models.
• Build constructive relationships with union representatives and steward networks; participate in Joint Labour Management meetings and committees.
• Track case law, arbitral trends, and legislative changes to inform risk mitigation and LR strategy; conduct comparative analyses of collective agreements and market data.
• Administer compensation cycles within the framework of multiple collective agreements (e.g., wage adjustments, progression grids, premiums).
• Advise leaders on complex employee relations matters, progressive discipline, performance improvement plans, accommodations/return to work, and workplace investigations; ensure fair, consistent, and compliant outcomes.
• Coach leaders on people-management practices, including feedback, recognition, performance calibration, and change leadership to enable a high performance culture.
• Support workforce planning, organizational design, and headcount/position management; ensure job evaluations and organizational structures align with business needs and collective agreements.
• Partner on talent processes: onboarding and offboarding, career pathways, succession inputs, and internal mobility within bargaining and non-bargaining groups.
• Lead or support policy development, program rollout, and employee engagement initiatives; embed inclusion, psychological safety, and continuous improvement principles.
• Track and analyze grievances, arbitrations, and dispute resolution outcomes; translate insights into proactive strategies and leader education.
• Produce regular HR/LR dashboards and reporting (e.g., headcount, vacancies, overtime, attendance, case cycle times, costing of proposals); provide briefings that inform decision-making.
• Use advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, modeling) and HRIS tools to ensure data integrity and generate actionable insights for leadership.

What You’ll Bring:
• Post-secondary education in Human Resources or related discipline; degree/diploma an asset.
• Minimum 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including demonstrated experience in Labour Relations within a unionized environment.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian employment and labour legislation (federal and applicable provincial) and collective agreement frameworks.
• Proven experience managing grievances to resolution
• Experience supporting collective bargaining (preparation, costing, drafting proposals, participating in negotiations).
• Demonstrated ability to influence without authority, build trust with leaders and union partners, and navigate sensitive situations with sound judgment and confidentiality.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); strong coaching, facilitation, and relationship-building capabilities.
• Advanced analytical and problem solving skills with high attention to detail; comfort with data storytelling and executive-ready summaries.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities; effective at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and advanced Excel (pivot tables, data manipulation); experience with HRIS/reporting tools.
• A passion for the Canadian Sports & Media industry and a continuous improvement mindset.
