Job description
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Scientist to lead the development and implementation of AI-powered analytics solutions for a 36-month engagement. This role is central to enhancing predictive capabilities and optimizing operational decision-making within a transit and services context. You will leverage Azure Databricks, Apache Spark, and Azure Open AI to extract actionable insights from large-scale datasets, ensuring a seamless and efficient user experience.

Duration: 36-month contract (Immediate start)
Location: Toronto (Hybrid – Minimum 2 days onsite per week)
Rate: $57.46-$-67.04/hr

Responsibilities
AI/ML Development: Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for predictive analytics, demand forecasting, and service reliability using Azure Machine Learning (AML) and Azure Open AI.

Big Data Processing: Transform and process large-scale structured and unstructured datasets utilizing Azure Databricks and Apache Spark.

Pipeline Optimization: Build, maintain, and optimize robust ETL pipelines within a data lake and data warehousing environment.

Advanced Analytics: Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA), feature engineering, and statistical modeling to derive insights from complex data models.

Data Visualization: Create high-impact dashboards and reports using Power BI to communicate findings to stakeholders and support data-informed decision-making.

Collaboration & Governance: Partner with cross-functional teams to identify business needs while ensuring best practices in data governance, model performance, and scalable architecture.

Technical Documentation: Produce detailed technical designs, functional specifications, and status reports throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years of dedicated experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, and advanced analytics.

Azure Mastery: 5+ years of hands-on experience with Azure SQL Server, Azure Synapse, and Azure Databricks.

Programming: 5+ years of proficiency in SQL and Python, with expert-level skills in Apache Spark for big data processing.

Cloud AI: Proven track record of building and deploying models in Azure Machine Learning and leveraging Azure Open AI services.

Visualization: Expertise in Power BI or similar tools for executive-level reporting and data storytelling.

Architecture Knowledge: Solid understanding of data lake architecture, data modeling, and big data solution principles.

Compliance & Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and familiarity with AODA and the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC).

Certifications (Desirable): Azure Data Engineer Associate or Azure AI Engineer Associate.
