Your Role
Reporting to the Natural Resources Manager with functional reporting to the Environmental Coordinator(s), the Environmental Technician is responsible for assisting with environmental initiatives within HLNR. The Environmental Technician will conduct research, generate reports and provide administrative assistance to the department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducting site inspections related to environmental monitoring and assessment
- Including environmental, ecological, water, snow, and permafrost assessments, activities funded by the Indigenous Observation Network (ION)
- Travelling by truck, skidoo, boat or four-wheeler and recording observations
- Documenting information by means of digital photography and written reports
- Collecting GPS coordinates of all data locations, as well as all off-road monitoring routes, and cooperating with the Natural Resources Manager or his / her designee to ensure daily upload of GPS data to the Community Knowledge Keeper
- Preparing and maintaining a variety of files, records and reports pertaining to environmental monitoring activities and projects
- Educating the public about CTFN environmental priorities
- Posting signs and distributing flyers and pamphlets
- Operating vehicles and other equipment as described in section 12
- Must follow departmental reporting procedures
- Performing other related duties as required
- Various tasks related to workshops, culture and language projects, and other related activities
- Engaging with citizens and collecting information through surveys
- Performing other related duties as required
