Job Description

Job Summary

Deliver accurate diagnostic laboratory testing and support clinical decision-making through timely processing and analysis of patient specimens. Maintain laboratory instruments, perform quality control, and communicate results according to professional standards.

Main Duties

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, and transfusion medicine.
  • Collect, label, receive, and process patient specimens, ensuring proper handling, preservation, and chain of custody.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and related equipment, and perform routine calibrations and preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct and document quality control procedures, participate in proficiency testing, and escalate deviations for investigation.
  • Record, validate, and report test results using laboratory information systems and communicate critical or urgent findings to clinical staff.
  • Adhere to biosafety, infection prevention, and regulatory procedures, and participate in continuous improvement and training activities.

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized diploma or degree program in medical laboratory technology or equivalent education.
  • Registration or certification with the appropriate provincial or national professional body where required.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience or successful practicum placement in a clinical setting.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory information systems, standard operating procedures, and documentation practices.
  • Understanding of quality assurance, biosafety, hazardous materials handling, and infection control protocols.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, evenings, or weekends as needed and to manage workload effectively under time constraints.
