Job description

At  SMS Equipment , our  Mechanical Supervisors  play a key role in providing organization, direction and supervision to our Mechanical Services function of branch operations. This role oversees a shop that maintains and repairs mining equipment. We are looking for a candidate who will bring their leadership, technical knowledge and customer service to the team. This position is based in  Elkford, BC.

The shift rotation for this position is 7x7. Being local to the area is an asset, but we welcome all qualified candidates ready to bring strong leadership and technical expertise to the table. Housing is available.

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $125,000.

The Supervisor, Mechanical will play a vital role in leading safe, efficient, and high-quality service operations. Your key responsibilities include :

  • Lead a team of approximately 30 Heavy Equipment Technicians and Electricians, promoting SMS Equipment’s safety-focused culture.
  • Oversee maintenance and repairs on Komatsu and other OEM equipment, ensuring quality and timely completion.
  • Assign work, coordinate scheduling, monitor and manage WIP, ensure alignment with warranty submissions, and utilize resources efficiently.
  • Guide and support tradespeople with repair procedures, technical challenges, and daily tasks.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture by delivering training, conducting audits, and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Prepare and review service quotes, work orders, and technical documentation to support smooth operations.
  • Manage customer repair expectations, communications and timelines effectively.
  • Support employee growth and development through coaching, performance evaluations, and ongoing feedback.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Supervisory role in a Mining environment
  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician or Electrician certification
  • Strong technical knowledge of Komatsu and other OEM equipment
  • Sound understanding of OH&S acts, safety standards, and inspection practices
  • Organized, proactive, and able to work independently
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and familiarity with Gantt charts
