Day in the Life

As a Road Maintenance Labourer, you will become familiar with the highway network while maintaining provincial highway infrastructure. Duties include repairing potholes and guardrails, installing small signs, repairing end treatments, and removing debris. You will safely operate and maintain equipment such as loaders, backhoes, excavators, chainsaws, lawn tractors, hand and power tools, and pick up trucks in accordance with contract requirements.


Strong organizational skills are required to complete accurate documentation, including daily equipment inspections, traffic control plans, utility locates, work records, and hours of service. You will also respond to call in requirements during accidents and highway closures, assisting with traffic control set up and take down at work zones and incident scenes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and emergency highway maintenance on provincial highways
  • Safely operate and maintain a variety of equipment and vehicles in accordance with contract and safety requirements
  • Complete accurate daily documentation
  • Respond to call in requirements during accidents and highway closures, assisting with traffic control set up and take down at work zones and incident scenes
  • Follow safe work procedures, wear required PPE, and report hazards, incidents, or equipment issues to supervision
  • Other Labour duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • G license with clean abstract
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Willingness to travel during the workday and be on call
  • DZ/AZ license will be considered an asset
  • Mechanically inclination will be considered an asset
  • Previous experience in construction or highway maintenance will be considered an asset
  • Basic computer proficiency will be considered an asset

Compensation Data

Targeting $27-31 per hour
