Position Summary

The Transit Coordinator is responsible for administering specialized transit services, including eligibility assessments, scheduling, and public engagement. This role ensures compliance with accessibility standards, responds to public inquiries, and assists residents in navigating transit services effectively. The Transit Coordinator plays a key role in enhancing service efficiency, supporting transit operations, and promoting awareness of municipal transit programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and evaluate specialized transit service eligibility, ensuring adherence to accessibility policies and regulations.
  • Manage scheduling and booking of specialized transit services to optimize efficiency and meet rider needs.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for the public, responding to inquiries, resolving concerns, and promoting transit services.
  • Promote transit initiatives to improve awareness and understanding of transit services.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to specialized transit operations, eligibility assessments, and customer interactions.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external interest-holders to support service planning and improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with municipal policies, provincial legislation, and industry best practices in transit service delivery.
  • Monitor and analyze service performance, providing recommendations for service enhancements and operational efficiencies.
  • Assist with transit-related administrative functions, including reporting, policy development, and customer communications.
  • Process cash and debit transactions while providing front-line customer service support at the front desk.

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in transit coordination, customer service, administrative support, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Transit Operations: Strong understanding of municipal transit services, specialized transit, and eligibility requirements.
  • Customer Service: Strong ability to interact with the public, address concerns, and communicate transit-related information clearly.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to assess service challenges, identify solutions, and implement effective improvements.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with residents, interest-holders, and municipal staff.
  • Time Management: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, scheduling, and reporting deadlines.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with scheduling systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and transit-related software.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Familiarity with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and other transit regulations.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primary in an office-based environment with occasional off-site engagements.
  • Standard business hours, Monday to Friday, with occasional flexibility needed for unexpected incidents.
  • Cognitive demands include ensuring eligibility assessments and service decisions align with current regulations and guidelines and resolving concerns with professionalism, particularly in sensitive or emotionally charged situations
  • Physical demands include extended periods of sitting and looking at a computer screen.

If selected for this role, you will need to provide:

  • Successful reference check (two work-related references, with a minimum of one being a direct supervisor)
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check
  • Successful Language Assessment (French/English), CBC level
  • Proof of certifications
