Job Description

The Manager, Construction is responsible for leading the successful execution of construction, maintenance, and turnaround projects while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, schedule performance, and cost control. Reporting to the District Manager, this role provides leadership and direction to field operations teams, oversees project execution strategies, and ensures contractual obligations and client commitments are consistently met.

Working collaboratively with project managers, operations teams, clients, subcontractors, and site leadership, the Manager, Construction drives operational excellence through effective planning, resource management, and team development. This role requires strong leadership capabilities, extensive construction expertise, and a proven ability to manage multiple priorities in complex industrial environments.

What would you be doing?

Safety Leadership & Operational Excellence

Lead project execution while promoting FLINT's commitment to safety and quality by:

  • Championing FLINT's HSE policies, programs, and initiatives across all field operations.
  • Fostering a positive safety culture that prioritizes safety and quality in every aspect of project execution.
  • Ensuring operational teams are aligned with FLINT's core values, policies, and procedures.
  • Supporting compliance with client requirements, regulatory standards, and company expectations.
  • Leading by example in safety performance, accountability, and operational excellence.

Project Planning & Execution

Oversee construction and turnaround activities to ensure successful project delivery by:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of project plans, execution strategies, and operational systems.
  • Managing workface planning activities, including work scopes, shift schedules, and field work packages.
  • Coordinating project resources to achieve safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
  • Ensuring daily and weekly planning processes are maintained and effectively communicated to field supervision.
  • Driving efficient execution through proactive problem-solving and operational oversight.

Resource Management & Team Leadership

Provide leadership and direction to field operations teams by:

  • Supervising and supporting General Forepersons, Forepersons, and field personnel.
  • Coordinating labour, materials, tools, equipment, and subcontractor resources.
  • Working collaboratively with project leadership to identify and resolve resource challenges.
  • Supporting workforce development through coaching, mentoring, and performance leadership.
  • Building and maintaining a high-performing team environment focused on accountability and collaboration.

Client Relationships & Financial Performance

Support successful business outcomes by:

  • Ensuring contractual commitments and client expectations are consistently achieved.
  • Monitoring project performance and implementing corrective actions when required.
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting, estimating, and cost control activities.
  • Analyzing operational and financial performance data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintaining positive client relationships through responsive and effective project execution.

Continuous Improvement

Contribute to organizational success by:

  • Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and project performance.
  • Supporting lessons learned and best practice initiatives.
  • Driving accountability for project outcomes and operational excellence.
  • Promoting innovation and continuous improvement across assigned operations.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer designation (Mechanical preferred), or Journeyperson Mechanical Trades Certification.
  • Minimum 10 years of supervisory experience managing industrial construction, maintenance, and turnaround projects.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple projects with budgets ranging from $5 million to $20 million and workforces of up to 200 craft personnel and contractors.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, project management, cost control, and operational planning.
  • Technical expertise in mechanical and piping construction, turnaround execution, maintenance programs, operations coordination, equipment management, cost estimating, and bid development.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting Requests for Proposals (RFPs), technical drawings, and project specifications.
