Job description

POSITION : Secondary Teacher - temporary

ASSIGNMENT : Learning Assistance (Gr 10-12)

FTE : 0.4286

LOCATION : Correlieu Secondary School

EFFECTIVE DATES : Commencing October 15, 2025 until June 30, 2026

Basic Qualifications : A successful candidate will hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate and be a member in good standing in the BC Ministry of Education, Teacher Regulation Branch AND possess one or more of the following :

Training Specialization : Secondary Education with a major in Special Education

Related Teaching Experience : Recent successful experience as a Secondary School Special Education Teacher

A Reasonable Expectation : based on a teacher's skills, abilities, professional development, and overall classroom teaching experience, that the teacher will be able to perform the duties in a successful manner in collaboration with other professional staff.

Learning Assistance Teacher

A learning assistance teacher ideally has a major in Special Education. Specific experience and training in supporting neurodiverse students is desirable.

The candidate should be able to provide demonstrated experience and ability in the following :

  • A demonstrated ability to support planning that allows access to the curriculum for all students
  • Ability to model instructional strategies which address a wide range of neurodiversity
  • Ability to lead teams, liaise with outside agencies and maintain extensive records of meetings
  • Ability to support classroom teachers to integrate technology for the purpose of providing access to the curriculum for all students
  • Collaboratively develop and assess programs and IEPs for students with certain identified needs
  • Training and experience in administering curriculum-based assessment and standardized assessments
  • Writing summaries of assessment results
  • Facilitating communication and coordinating services and resources through a school-based and working team model
  • Maintaining accurate and current records for certain groups of students receiving support services according to Ministry and District guidelines
  • Offering instructional support in or out of the classroom using resources appropriate for individual student needs and in accordance with Ministry expectations
  • Tracking students with special needs from year to year and ensuring students are accurately categorized according to Ministry and District guidelines
  • Following all policies, procedures and guidelines for Special Education services as defined in the Ministry of Education Manual of Special Education Services.
  • The learning assistance teacher provides services to students and staff in the regular classroom as well as alternate environments and must be able to work in a collaborative and consultative manner with classroom teachers, principals, the school-based team, special education assistants, district staff and others.

    The starting annual salary for the full-time Teacher ranges from $61,175 to $109,520 with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. We also offer a competitive benefits package and pension.
