JOB SYNOPSIS:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Lift Operations Supervisor, the Lift Operator’s primary role is to provide the safe operation of all Passenger Ropeways within Whitewater Ski Resort. You are an enthusiastic, integral member of our team, greeting guests as they arrive and ensuring the safe operation of the Passenger Ropeways. You prioritize safety and teamwork, while maximizing guest and employee experience.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate the lift safely and efficiently, working closely with the Lift Maintenance department to learn the proper operation of lift equipment.
  • Continuously monitor the safety of passengers while providing instruction in the safe loading and unloading of ski lifts; managing the speed of the lift as needed.
  • Proactively notify maintenance/dispatch of repair or maintenance needs.
  • Safely understand and execute all emergency procedures and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform snow work; which includes ramp maintenance, shoveling, raking, sweeping chairs, and ensuring all chairs are clear of snow, ice, and/or grease.
  • Station setup and teardown; ensuring the maze, signs and gates are in place and maintained for guest and staff safety.
  • Maintain a safe work area, including cleaning lift shacks.
  • Perform and document pre-operational checks.
  • Act as a “Resort Ambassador” to guests by providing the highest quality of customer service and being familiar with various resort products and services.
  • Work extended, flexible shifts. This includes weekends and in extreme weather conditions at the resort.
  • Follow and perform all company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all safety regulations of other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:

  • Background in lift operations or guest services is considered an asset.
  • Related Ski Resort or Tourism experience is an asset.
  • Mechanical aptitude or familiarity with chair lifts or similar equipment is an asset.
  • Previous experience in a customer service role is an asset.
  • Previous experience in an outdoor role is an asset.
  • Completed Grade 12 education or equivalent is an asset.
  • Valid BC class 5 driver’s license with clean abstract as asset.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Must be a team player and able to work well with others while maintaining a calm & positive attitude, sometimes during high stress.
  • Are team oriented and able to work cooperatively and effectively with diverse personalities.
  • Good physical condition (ability to lift heavy objects and assist guests in loading, ability to constantly walk and perform manual labor on uneven ground)
  • Advanced skiing or snowboarding ability.
  • Ability to work outside for extended periods in adverse weather conditions
  • Must be willing to travel to the mountain and work weekends and holidays as required.
  • Have a passion and enthusiasm for mountain culture, and the resort environment.
  • Safety oriented, adhere to Occupational Health and Safety responsibility and requirements.
