Founded in 1913, Olds College of Agriculture & Technology has been offering high quality hands-on education for over a century. About the School of Trades & Skills

The School of Trades & Skills is dedicated to creating the next generation of skilled trades workers. Working closely with industry, the School provides learners with education in a variety of trades and apprenticeships using the newest equipment. The School is also home to the Olds College Brewery. Fields of study offered within the School of Trades & Skills include: Brewmaster and Brewery Operations, Hospitality and Tourism, Trades, Apprenticeships & Pre-Employment, Transitional Employment Program, and Farrier Science.

The Opportunity - Instructor, Agriculture & Heavy Equipment (Permanent and Contract Positions)

The School of Trades and Skills at Olds College is seeking passionate and experienced individual to join our team as an Instructor to support our Agriculture & Heavy Equipment programs commencing for the 2026-2027 academic year. Courses may be available in the following programs:

  • Agricultural Equipment Technician Apprenticeship training (Curriculum information can be found here https://tradesecrets.alberta.ca/trades-in-alberta/profiles/0322/)
  • Heavy Equipment Technician Apprenticeship training ((Curriculum information can be found here https://tradesecrets.alberta.ca/trades-in-alberta/profiles/0191/)
  • Agricultural & Heavy Equipment Certificate & Diploma instruction (https://www.oldscollege.ca/programs/trades-apprenticeship/agricultural-heavy-equipment-diploma.html)
  • John Deere Tech training

This is a unique role that will support and contribute to a high-quality learning environment by developing curriculum, delivering instruction, and providing academic support to students pursuing careers in the agriculture and heavy equipment industry. There are opportunities to instruct across various programs, including Apprenticeship training, Certificate & Diploma instruction, and John Deere Tech training.

We are looking for:

  • Industry Experience That Matters: Someone who brings experience in the trades.
  • Natural Leadership/Mentoring Ability: A professional who creates an encouraging learning environment, acts as the first point of contact for student concerns, and provides ample time outside the classroom for counseling and mentoring students.
  • A Collaborative Approach: Someone who is comfortable working with other College departments to facilitate learner success, and who collaborates with colleagues to scaffold skills and create an exceptional student experience.
  • Positive Influence: An individual dedicated to creating an inclusive and diverse learning environment, who actively promotes safety and well-being, and inspires a sense of belonging and accountability across the campus community.

What you will be doing:

  • Planning, preparing, and delivering instruction that addresses various learning styles relative to course content.
  • Evaluating and reporting on student progress, monitoring student performance and behavior, and submitting required reports.
  • Monitoring classroom supplies and tools inventory, and maintaining the confidentiality and security of student information.
  • Learning and implementing new technology and teaching tools to enhance the educational experience.
  • Performing other activities related to your instructional assignment, such as coordinating program activities and participating in College development initiatives.

What you bring to the role:

  • Minimum Agricultural Equipment Technician Journeyperson and/or Heavy Equipment Technician Journeyperson Certification (required).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the trades with related industry.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and make decisions in accordance with College policies.
  • Knowledge, skills, and/or training in an instruction or teaching setting is an asset.
  • Experience with International Students and diverse cultural and learning needs is an asset.
