The Senior Marine Specialist is responsible for providing subject matter expertise related to designing and delivering in-service support for ships built under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) and other customer fleets.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, In-Service Support, the incumbent will work closely with engineers, Integrated Logistics Support specialists, supply chain management, suppliers, customers and end users. The role will mainly focus on support provided to the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) and the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), spanning all phases of the vessel and equipment lifecycle from concept design through development, build, transition-to-service, warranty and in-service support. The incumbent will increase the quality and pace of delivery, ensuring that all support solutions are aligned with customer requirements, regulatory standards, and broader organizational goals.
Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you’ll do
Warranty Execution
- Ensure accurate capture of warranty claim data to enable robust warranty trend reporting.
- Perform system/equipment/component‑level warranty data analysis to identify trends and feed Lessons Learned into Supply Chain, Engineering, Test & Trials, Integrated Logistic Support, and other teams.
- Conduct initial technical investigations on vessel warranty claims, locate and organize technical data (manuals, drawings, vendor info) to support claim resolution.
- Support the specifications, procurement, and tracking of materials required for warranty resolution.
- Support the creation and maintenance of instructional materials, ship system manuals, e-learning modules, and practical exercises in line with defence and industry standards.
- Review and validate training materials (. lesson plans, CBT storyboards) and technical publications for technical accuracy, instructional soundness, and client compliance.
- Author sections of ship system manuals and training material as required, including identification of safety hazards and system integration aspects.
- Provide subject matter expert review of supplier technical information, publications and training media.
- Interpret, apply, and advise ILS team and clients (. DND, RCN, Coast Guard) on training standards, qualification requirements, and competency frameworks for marine and combat systems.
Logistic Support Analysis
- Offer guidance and subject matter expertise in naval systems to include mechanical, electrical, hull systems and naval architecture to clients and internal ILS team.
- Analyze the impact of engineering changes on the support solution for vessels, systems and equipment.
- Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in ship and equipment support, lifecycle materiel management, and defence/shipbuilding standards.
Support Solution Development
- Develop technical solutions for competitive in-service support tenders / Requests for Proposals.
- Support engagement with suppliers, partners and other Seaspan companies to assess capability and establish joint approaches to support solution delivery.
- Identify risks and opportunities relating to support solution design and delivery, implementing mitigation strategies and improvements.
- Support the identification, analysis, and communication of lessons identified across all support programs.
What you’ll bring
- RQPO1 Maintenance Manager Qualification from Royal Canadian Navy (or equivalent) with 10-15+ years of experience.
- QL6A or QL6B (or equivalent) in Marine Engineering, Marine Electrical, Hull, or Combat Systems from the Royal Canadian Navy.
- Life Cycle Material Manager training/qualification considered an asset.
- Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Logistics & Project Management.
- Commitment to upholding safety and compliance with defence regulations and company policies.
- Proven experience reviewing and validating training documentation, qualification standards and technical publications.
- Proven experience developing and reviewing maintenance procedures and documentation.
- Extensive experience within the RCN training system includes exposure to the CFITES process.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a training standards expert, reviewer, or senior advisor on mechanical, electrical, and hull systems.
- Working knowledge of shipbuilding processes, naval systems, or engineering concepts.
- Understanding of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) frameworks and life-cycle management.
- Effective team-building and leadership abilities, with experience leading diverse teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Capacity to plan, prioritize, and oversee multiple projects within strict deadlines, with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting materials and facilitating workshops.
- Ability to influence and negotiate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactive approach to identifying gaps, proposing solutions, and driving implementation.
- Demonstrated experience performing Life Cycle Materiel Management (LCMM) functions for complex naval or military systems.
- Experience working with DND, PSPC, or industry partners on naval procurement, support or training programs.
- Employment experience in the Naval Fleet Schools (NFS).
- Strong understanding of naval technical occupations.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance as per contract requirements.
- Willingness to travel domestically, as required, to support activities across multiple sites.

The estimated salary for this position is $119,700 - $146,300. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
