Job description

Company Description

If you’re looking for more, you’ve come to the right place.

From the moment we opened our doors in 1981, we knew we wanted to be different. The people who work here are special, and that’s what makes us special. Our team members uphold the standards we set long ago by making the exceptional everyday, building relationships with our customers and with each other, and finding a place where their potential meets opportunity.

Job Description

Be part of what makes us different.

As a senior member of the store leadership team, you’ll play a key role in shaping the customer experience and supporting Farm Boy’s vision of the best fresh shopping destination in the community. Working closely with the Store Manager, you’ll help bring business strategies to life while building a culture rooted in trust, engagement, inclusion, and performance. Through hands-on leadership and operational excellence, you’ll empower both your team and the store to succeed. Here are some of the other ways you’ll help us stand out:

  • Deliver outstanding customer service while supporting Farm Boy’s vision of the best fresh shopping experience.
  • Partner with the store leadership team to execute strategies that drive performance, achieve business objectives, and enhance operational results.
  • Foster a culture of trust, inclusion, and employee well-being by leading with empathy, emotional intelligence, and open communication.
  • Support team development and engagement through one-on-one coaching, training, recognition, and team huddles that share goals, celebrate successes, build product knowledge, and encourage feedback.
  • Collaborate with the Store Manager to develop a high-performing team by providing leadership, motivation, and ongoing performance support while maintaining confidentiality and trust.
  • Promote and communicate company policies and procedures as outlined in management meetings, handbooks, manuals, and written directives to ensure compliance and consistency across the store.
  • Support the implementation of Health & Safety and Food Safety programs, helping ensure alignment with established standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent Farm Boy within the community by participating in local events and supporting continued community engagement.
  • Assist the Store Manager with key business deliverables, including inventory management, ordering, item maintenance, quality control, product rotation, shrink management, merchandising, invoicing, scheduling, and payroll.
  • Ensure the ongoing safety and security of store operations, including proper opening and closing procedures and responding to emergency situations when required.
  • Support accurate financial operations by overseeing safe management processes, documentation and record retention, cashier reporting, audits, and refund oversight to maintain front-end integrity.
  • Contribute to overall store success by undertaking additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

What you bring to the table.

We provide the opportunity, and you bring the potential.

  • A genuine passion for delivering engaging and exceptional customer service.
  • Completion of a post-secondary program with an emphasis in business, plus a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible retail management experience (preferably within the perishable food sector), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of Public Health Food Handler certification, Smart Serve, and Level A First Aid & Basic CPR, or a commitment to obtain all required certifications within six months of hire.
  • Strong working knowledge of the retail environment, food products, and high standards for quality and freshness.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment by effectively managing changing priorities while maintaining strong performance results.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated success in team engagement and development.
  • Comfort learning and working with both manual and automated systems, along with experience using various computer software applications.
  • Thrive in a hands-on setting that involves extended periods of standing, heavy lifting, and work that may be performed in cooler, freezer, and outdoor conditions.
  • Flexibility to work a dynamic schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Fluency in English; French language skills considered an asset.

What we bring to the table.

At Farm Boy, we believe in supporting our Team Members throughout their careers. Whether, it’s at our Home Office or our stores, we’re proud to stand out in the market as a workplace that offers:

  • Comprehensive benefit program and coverage that varies by position.
  • Coverage may include healthcare, dental care, disability coverage, life insurance and registered retirement savings program.
  • A 10% discount on in-store purchases.
  • On-the-job training and the prioritization of internal promotions to help you grow and embrace new opportunities.
  • The opportunity to support local neighbourhoods through our community programs.
  • This role is eligible to participate in the Farm Boy incentive program.
