The opportunity
The University of Manitoba is seeking a Clinical Veterinarian to play a pivotal role in safeguarding animal welfare, supporting cutting edge research, and guiding our community in the highest standards of humane practice. In this dynamic position, you’ll provide expert clinical care, contribute to ethical protocol review, mentor researchers and students, and exercise meaningful authority to ensure every animal receives respectful, compliant, and compassionate treatment—while helping shape the future of responsible animal based research on our campuses.
The qualifications and experience we’re looking for
- D.V.M. and eligible for licensing in Manitoba.
- 1 full year working with laboratory animals and 1 year of large animal experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of Canadian Council on Animal Care Guidelines an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Skillful in handling, restraint of various species of animals, as well as diagnosis and treatment of a variety of species is required.
- Good surgical skills, blood collection techniques and other standard veterinary techniques is required.
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal required.
- Ability to interpret and formulate feedback / articulate key messages required.
- Ability to use inclusive, respectful language in all communication required.
- Ability to carry out all aspects of the position with a high degree of tact, confidentiality, diplomacy, discretion and professionalism required.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision required.
- Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment and action in meeting the responsibilities required.
- Ability to multitask and work accurately under pressure required.
- Ability to evaluate large documents for completeness, consistency, and compliance required.
- Strong technical skills to learn and adapt to new and changing technology required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
