Job description

Are you an experienced payroll professional looking for flexible, part-time work? Join a non-profit organization as an Accounting Administrative / Payroll Specialist for short term position and support their year-end payroll processing!

Accounting Administrative / Payroll Specialist

Temp 12+ weeks

Location :  Remote, Newmarket, ON L3Y 7B9

Pay Rate : $30 - $35 per hour

Hours : 15 hours per week (flexible, ideal for part-time workers or those seeking additional hours)

Start Date : Within 2 weeks, to support year-end payroll processing

Job Overview :

We are seeking an Accounting Administrative / Payroll Specialist to join a non-profit organization and provide critical support during an employee's leave. This fully remote position offers flexible hours, making it ideal for candidates looking to supplement their current work schedule or those seeking a part-time role.

Key Responsibilities :

Payroll Processing :

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for 119 employees across Canada and 1 employee in Quebec using Payworks .
  • Verify timecards and process employee changes, including benefits and deductions.
  • Manage remittances, including RRSP contributions and other payroll-related payments.
  • Enter payroll-related General Journal Entries and reconcile accounts.

Budget Control :

  • Update and maintain budget templates monthly.
  • Investigate and monitor budget variances, slippage, and deficits.
  • Update program fees before and after program changes.
  • Reporting & Compliance :

  • Assist with year-end payroll tasks and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll regulations, especially for non-profit organizations.
  • Qualifications :

  • 2+ years of experience in accounting and payroll.
  • Proficiency with Payworks software is highly preferred.
  • Experience in a non-profit environment is a strong asset.
  • Payroll designation is a plus but not required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office , particularly Excel (Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP).
  • Strong understanding of budgets, reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills
