Job description

Applications are invited to the position of Corporate Chief, Mental Health and Addictions at William Osler Health System (Osler), a hospital system which includes Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital, and Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (and withdrawal management centre). Serving 1.3 million residents of Brampton, Etobicoke and surrounding communities within the Central region and nationally recognized for its commitment to patient safety, Osler is Accredited with Exemplary Standing, the highest rating a Canadian hospital can receive. Osler will also play a critical role in the development of Ontario’s next net-new Medical School, in partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), and as part of its transition to an Academic Health Centre. With an annual budget of $1.2B, Osler offers a wide range of health services, with high quality care provided by skilled, professional, multidisciplinary teams. The hospital is frequently named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers and is recognized as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers.

Reporting collaboratively to the Chief of Staff and Executive Vice President, Medical & Academic Affairs, the Corporate Chief, Mental Health and Addictions (“Corporate Chief”) provides enterprise‑wide strategic, clinical, and professional leadership for Mental Health and Addictions services across all Osler sites. Working closely with Site Chiefs, Administrative Directors, and Patient Services leadership, the Corporate Chief is accountable for the overall performance, quality, and consistency of Mental Health and Addictions care delivery within a complex, multi‑site organization. The Corporate Chief will lead, engage, and support physicians and clinical leaders in the delivery of high‑quality, patient‑centred care within an integrated, team‑based environment. This role requires creativity, adaptability, and sound professional judgement to effectively manage competing priorities while fostering a culture of clinical excellence, collaboration, and accountability.

In partnership with their dyad leader, the Corporate Chief will provide expert medical leadership to optimize care delivery within available resources, balancing the needs of acute, subspecialty, and community‑based Mental Health and Addictions services while advancing quality, access, and patient flow across the system. With a strong enterprise focus, the role ensures alignment, standardization, and effective coordination of programs and clinical practice across all three Osler sites. The Corporate Chief will actively champion principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, embedding these values into decision‑making processes, team culture, and departmental practices. In addition, this leader will play a key role in strengthening Osler’s academic mission through its ongoing partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University, supporting education, scholarship, and the advancement of psychiatric and addiction medicine practice.

The ideal candidate is a visionary, inclusive, and collaborative physician leader who thrives in complex environments and is driven to advance high‑quality, patient‑centred Mental Health and Addictions care at scale. They should be a physician in good standing with the College and able to be credentialed within the department. With deep clinical expertise in psychiatry and experience working across the continuum of mental health and addictions services, they will bring a demonstrated ability to build, engage, and lead high‑performing physician teams while working effectively across portfolios to achieve system‑wide impact. A trusted and influential leader, the successful candidate will be recognized for exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate vision, influence diverse stakeholders, and foster meaningful dialogue across clinical, academic, and administrative groups. They will balance clinical excellence with operational and strategic priorities, navigating the realities of a large, multi‑site hospital system with confidence and credibility. Known for sound judgement and thoughtful decision‑making, the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous improvement and will foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional respect across diverse teams and stakeholders.

This is a rare opportunity to lead Mental Health and Addictions at one of Canada’s largest and fastest-growing community hospital systems, serving a diverse and rapidly expanding population. The successful candidate will have a track record of success in managing large and complex departments, balancing strategic vision with operational execution, and driving innovation to advance quality, safety, and efficiency. They will also play a key role in shaping Osler’s new academic mission, helping to build teaching, research, and learning opportunities that will influence the next generation of healthcare providers and leaders.
