About the role
On-site Full-time or / Part-time, depending on preference
This role will consist primarily of performing repairs and maintenance to the building and property, and the maintenance of mechanical equipment under minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities :
- Routine maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting on facility & lab equipment such as heating and A / C units, motors, pumps, filters, etc
- Assist Facilities Manager with repair and maintenance work as required;
- Assist trades and contractors;
- Property maintenance including garbage or waste removal and maintaining both indoor and outdoor areas as required;
- Purchase and transport of building materials and maintenance supplies;
- Complete minor unsupervised building repairs such as painting, carpentry, basic plumbing, etc.;
- Assess and determine project requirements and call in trades or contractors as necessary;
- Monitoring and maintenance of on-site waste treatment systems;
- Supervise facility and maintenance projects;
- Determine required supplies and place orders;
- Operate forklift to remove garbage or waste, and move pallets, etc.;
- Maintains all log books and maintenance records / schedules;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring quality of work;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned.
About you :
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Basic HVAC knowledge;
- Basic plumbing knowledge;
- Aptitude for mechanical and electrical systems;
- Ability to read technical manuals and follow instructions;
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks;
- Ability to work to achieve deadlines with strong time management and organizational skills;
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team and with minimal supervision;
- Demonstrates sound judgment, integrity and ability to problem solve;
- Safety-oriented;
- Comfortable operating a computer and doing clerical work.
Required Qualifications :
- Minimum Building Operator Certificate, SMT or SMA designation, or equivalent relevant formal training (ie. Trade certification) from a technical institution, or experience commensurate;
- 2-3 years experience in general building repairs and operations is required;
- Experience working with carpentry, plumbing and / or HVAC will be an asset;
- Valid Provincial Class 5 driver’s license with clean driving history (abstract required);
- Forklift certificate or experience will be an asset (full training will be provided);
- Ability to perform small repairs and general maintenance skills.

- An estimated hourly pay ranging from $26.48 - $34.60 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and / or training.
