MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL St. Patrick School (Taber) This position is open to all internal and external candidates. Prior to employment, successful applicants must provide supporting documents as outlined on our New Employees page.
We are looking to hire a temporary full time Mental Health Professional to support St. Patrick School in Taber. This assignment is to commence at a mutually agreed time and terminate March 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension.
- This is an out of scope position. The Mental Health Professional may include : Registered Psychologist (R. Psych) Licensed to practice by the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP);
- Clinical Psychologist specialising in assessment and treatment of mental health disorders; Educational Psychologist who can support students with academic, emotional, and behavioural challenges;
- Registered Social Worker (RSW) licensed by the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW); Social Worker (BSW or MSW) bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work and able to provide counselling, support, and advocacy;
- Occupational Therapist with bachelor’s and or master’s degree in occupational therapy and can help individuals with mental health challenges;
- Psychiatric Nurse (RN or RPN) Registered Nurse and or Registered Psychiatric Nurse who specialises in mental health nursing;
Unlicensed counsellors registered with The Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta and / or the Alberta Teachers Association.
Working with a strong and supportive School Based Learning Team, under the direction of the Director of Support Services or designate, the Mental Health Professional will be responsible for the assessment and intervention for students with exceptional needs.
In addition to developing and implementing programming strategies, primary duties include screening, identifying, and diagnosing learning and emotional / behavioural conditions.
- Education and Qualifications : Full registration with the designated college / association. Experience and Skills : At least two years relevant experience in a school division and / or clinical setting working with children and adolescents is preferred;
- Demonstrated ability to use a variety of assessment techniques and tools to identify and address student’s psychological and educational needs;
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills to provide consultation to school staff; Experience in providing psychological services across Early Learning through grade 6 levels;
Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in working within a multidisciplinary team; Must possess a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Responsibilities : Provide assessment, consultation and treatment services to students; Determine student programming needs including working with the multidisciplinary team to provide support and guidance for the provision of universal, targeted and specialized interventions;
- Provide comprehensive reports interpreting the results of psychological assessments for students; Provide consultation and feedback regarding psychological diagnosis and intervention to parents / guardians and school staff;
- Liaise with external professionals / agencies toward integrated understanding and support of students; Accountable for the development and provision of quality clinical services to students and families;
Work collaboratively with the Support Services multidisciplinary team; Assist with Integrated School Support Program (ISSP) evaluation and reporting to the Calgary Police Youth Foundation (CPYF).
