Job Overview
A hands-on Senior Database Administrator who thrives in a dynamic work environment. This role involves working with other database service team members, cross-functional IT and business team members to ensure high security, high availability, high performance Pet Valu databases, including but not limited to on-prime and cloud-based SQL server, Oracle, and other databases.
This role is accountable for daily database operations to ensure databases performance, security, availability meet agreed SLAs.
This role will need to design / implement / maintain / operate automated database monitoring and alter systems. This role will also involve into variety of Pet Valu IT projects to design and implement database solutions based on project requirements.
Additionally, this role acts as mentor on database development best practices both for the development teams and for the business.
Essential Duties
- Be accountable on daily database operations to ensure databases meet compliance, security, performance, availability requirements.
- Collaborate, support other IT departments and business partners on database development requests. Leading the database development tasks for different projects.
Design, implement database solutions base on project requirements.
- Review the database solutions from different projects to ensure the solutions align with long term database vision and goals.
- Design, implement, operation Pet Valu automated database monitoring / alerting to ensure databases are closed monitored to minimalize downtime.
- Involved with different IT projects to design / implement database solutions to project teams.
- Be the escalation point for the complicated, high impact database issues, leading the troubleshooting of issues and providing solutions to problem resolving.
- Rotated 24 / 7 oncall support.
- Other tasks as assigned
Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications
- At least 5 years of database administrator experience.
- Bachelors or master’s in computer science or equivalent preferred.
- Experience building and maintaining production and nonproduction database environments, including but not limited to on-prime and cloud-based SQL Server, Oracle databases.
- Experience with 24 X 7 IT support on mission critical database systems.
- Understand ITIL standards and processes.
- Experience deploying and managing in-house / cloud-hosted database services.
- Working with high performing technology teams.
- Resolving technical issues through troubleshooting & investigation.
- Define, maintain appropriate database Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) to ensure database monitoring.
- Knowledge and experience with Azure, GCP.
- Experience with large scale systems involving reporting, transactional systems and integration with other enterprise systems.
- Experience with Retail systems including point-of-sales, warehousing / distribution, and merchandising systems.
