These Secondary Occasional Teaching opportunities will be effective this school year (2024 / 2025). Please note successful candidates will be added to Secondary Occasional Teacher Roster as spots become available throughout the school year.

We encourage all Secondary Occasional Teachers to apply. Our current high need areas include French, Special Education and Technology .

We anticipate interviews to be scheduled throughout the coming months.

Please note : This posting may be reactivated at any time throughout the 2024 / 2025 school year, as hiring is determined by system needs.

At the York Region District School Board we can offer you a challenging and rewarding career in public education. We support our teachers in their commitment to ensuring student success.

We recognize the key difference that teachers make in the lives of our learners. We are looking for strong, capable teachers who have the desire "to advance student achievement and well-being through public education, which motivates learners, fosters inclusion, inspires innovation and builds community".

The skills, talents and dedication that you bring will make our system stronger in its ability to meet the learning needs of students today and well into the future.

Note : At YRDSB, if you are added to the Occasional Teacher Roster, Social Science courses may be categorized as either Family Studies or History.

If your second teachable falls under Social Science (e.g. psychology, history, law, family studies, etc.) we request that you include a copy of your transcript(s) in your online application as this may be required in determining your eligibility.

If all of your courses fall under Family Studies or History, you would be required to obtain an additional qualification outside of Social Science in order to be considered for the Secondary Occasional Teacher Roster.

Qualifications & Requirements :

In order to be considered for Secondary Occasional Teaching, you must have a minimum of qualifications in both Intermediate and Senior.

The current requirements include qualifications in Intermediate and Senior in two (2) subject areas (e.g. I / S - subject area #1 & I / S - subject area #2).

Requirements may change based on system needs.

If you are Primary / Junior qualified only, please do not submit an application to Secondary Occasional teaching. We would encourage you to review and apply to the active job postings, including the Elementary Occasional Teaching job posting.

If you are applying to both Elementary and Secondary Occasional Teaching at YRDSB, you will only be eligible to be on one (1) of the two (2) Occasional Teaching Rosters.

Therefore, it is important that you prioritize which list you prefer (Elementary or Secondary) as once you accept a position on the Occasional Teacher Roster, your application will be inactivated from the other teacher job posting(s).
