The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Tax Manager, the Tax Manager will be responsible for Canadian tax functions which include income and sales tax analysis and advisory services, tax risk management and audit defense (domestic, international, sales tax and non-resident withholding) for Abbott Canadian Affiliates.

The Tax Manager will also assist the Senior Tax Manager on special projects and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

Manage various tax audits (domestic, international, sales tax and non-resident withholding), including analysis of documentation and preparation of responses to queries from the tax authorities.

Perform tax research on various issues and document tax positions and recommendations.

Provide support and advice to business units on various tax matters.

Identify and manage tax risks.

Participate in the review of Q3 and year-end tax provision, research, and document related tax accounting issues.

Maintain current transfer pricing contemporaneous documentation (supported by Corporate Tax and external tax advisors);

Keep abreast of relevant tax practices and monitor legislative developments; communicate changes to the business, when appropriate.

Train and mentor tax team members.

Ensure the Abbott Canadian Affiliates comply with both local and international Abbott policies and Procedures; and

Assist the Senior Tax Manager with special projects, as required.

Required Qualifications

Solid organizational, managerial, and interpersonal skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Detail oriented.

Highly motivated, curious, and strong aptitude for continuous technical development.

Ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic, and changing environment.

Ability to deliver high-quality work in a collaborative and time-sensitive environment.

Autonomous, resourceful, and reliable.

Proficiency with Excel.

Knowledge of transfer pricing and sales tax, an asset; and

Knowledge of SAP, an asset.

CPA In-Depth Tax Courses (Levels I and II) completion, an asset.

Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience in Canadian corporate tax in a large company or firm.

Bilingual (English / French if the position is located in Quebec), both spoken and written.

L’occasion à saisir

Relevant du (de la) responsable principal(e) de la fiscalité, la personne retenue sera chargée de diverses tâches fiscales, dont la réalisation d’analyses et la fourniture de services-conseils en matière d’impôt sur le revenu et de taxes de vente, la gestion des risques fiscaux et la défense des vérifications (nationales, internationales, taxes de vente et retenues à la source pour les non-résidents) pour les sociétés affiliées canadiennes d’Abbott.

Elle appuiera également le (la) responsable principal(e) de la fiscalité dans la réalisation de projets spéciaux et collaborera avec une multitude de parties prenantes internes et externes.

Principales responsabilités :

  • Gérer diverses vérifications fiscales (nationales, internationales, taxes de vente et retenue à la source pour les non-résidents), notamment en analysant la documentation et en préparant des réponses aux questions posées par les autorités fiscales;
  • Réaliser de la recherche fiscale sur les différents problèmes et consigner les positions fiscales et les recommandations;
  • Fournir un soutien et des conseils aux unités opérationnelles sur diverses questions fiscales;
  • Cerner et gérer les risques fiscaux;
  • Participer à la vérification des provisions fiscales du troisième trimestre et de fin de l’année, puis rechercher et consigner les problèmes de comptabilité fiscale qui y sont liés;
  • Tenir à jour la documentation contemporaine sur les prix de transfert (avec l’appui du service fiscal de l’entreprise et des conseillers fiscaux externes);
  • Demeurer au courant des pratiques fiscales pertinentes et suivre les évolutions législatives; partager les changements avec l’entreprise, le cas échéant;
  • Fournir de la formation et du mentorat les membres d’équipe;
  • Veiller à ce que les sociétés affiliées canadiennes d’Abbott respectent les politiques et les procédures d’Abbott; et
  • Appuyer le responsable principal de la fiscalité dans le cadre de projets spéciaux, le cas échéant.

Formation et expérience professionnelle requises :

  • Solides compétences en matière d’organisation, de gestion et de relations interpersonnelles;
  • Solides compétences en matière d’analyse et de résolution de problèmes;
  • Souci du détail;
  • Motivation, curiosité et forte aptitude au développement technique continu;
  • Capacité à travailler dans un environnement rapide, dynamique et changeant;

Connaissance des prix de transfert et de la taxe des ventes un atout; et

Connaissance de SAP un atout.

  • Titre de comptable professionnel;
  • Réussite des niveaux 1 et 2 du Programme fondamental d’impôt offert par CPA Canada un atout;
  • Au moins 5 à 7 ans d’expérience pertinente dans le domaine de la fiscalité des entreprises canadiennes au sein d’une grande société ou d’un cabinet;

Bilinguisme (français et anglais), tant à l’oral qu’à l’écrit.
