Reporting to the Manager, the Nursing Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities on the medical unit.

The Coordinator oversees the care given by other nursing professionals in the department. The Coordinator is responsible for staff scheduling, maintaining equipment and supplies necessary for the delivery of care and will act as a role model for staff in promoting multi-disciplinary communication and co-ordination of care.

Skills / Abilities / Qualifications

Required

  • Ontario College of Nurses registration
  • Baccalaureate Degree in nursing
  • Oncology certificate
  • CC1 or equivalent
  • Experience in staff scheduling and knowledge of the ONA contract
  • Minimum 5 years recent medical nursing experience
  • Knowledge of, and experience with current legislation governing Nursing Clinical Practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Excellent assessment skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families and other health care processionals
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, decision-making and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to coach and mentor new staff and students
  • Willingness to participate in unit specific projects
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records

Preferred

  • Oncology nursing experience
