POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Chief Strategy and Stakeholder Engagement Officer, the Vice President (VP), External Communications and Stakeholder Relations is key in establishing BDC's strategic positioning in the marketplace.

He or she will lead BDC's overall external communication strategy, benchmarks, and goals while proactively managing the bank's reputation from all angles.

In addition, they will lead government and external relations, including all stakeholder engagement. Supporting BDC's strategic priorities, they will own the execution of all external communications and relations.

Data and insights driven, the VP will feed the Bank's decision making while leveraging cross-functional collaboration and influence to rally colleagues and partners towards a shared approach, and will play a critical role when it comes to crisis management.

This leader is all about measures and being intentional in our communications, relations, and public presences.

The candidate we are looking for is a savvy planner and is skillful in integrating all the disciplines of communications and public relations into a cohesive approach, leveraging strong leadership to lead a team of dedicated professionals, obtain results and amplify the bank's impact.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

Act as senior advisor to the executive team and senior management on key strategic external communications issues, and act as key contact for the President's Office.

If needed, act as one of BDC's spokespersons.

  • Lead the creation and planning of integrated external communication and public relations plans in support of our business vision and corporate priorities.
  • Establish the annual public forums strategy for the President and Chief Executive Officer and other members of the management team.
  • Oversee the design, production and dissemination of regulatory disclosure documents and other corporate documents and events in support of our transparency mindset (i.

e., Annual Report, Annual Public Meeting, Quarterly Results, Board of Directors, etc.).

  • Lead the development of external communication plans that meet BDC's strategic priorities and oversee the deployment of related strategies, including visibility to BDC's goals and accomplishments related to sustainability, while enhancing the perception and understanding of our sustainability approach.
  • Oversee public relations activities, which include the implementation of media relations strategies and the launch of innovative initiatives to increase BDC's media coverage nationally and regionally, both online and offline.
  • Oversee compliance with the application of the BDC Reputational Risk Directive, including escalation of reputation issues and crisis management.

Act as senior counsel for business continuity initiatives related to both operational and cybersecurity risks.

  • Oversee the development of communication strategies related to access to information requests and parliamentary questions.
  • Drive the Bank's international relations strategy aligning with the business vision and corporate priorities while contributing to the achievement of our goals.
  • Plan and manage integrated engagement programs with stakeholders, including stakeholders, influencers, shareholder, etc.

  • Collaborate with appropriate business units to strengthen coherent brand building and communications activities, including consistent messaging and the efficient deployment of initiatives.

e., announcements, webinars, public speaking, etc)

  • Lead specific stakeholder outreach initiatives, maintain dialogue and other forms of engagement to understand key concerns and issues and inform review and enhancement of corporate planning and business priorities.
  • Lead a team of dedicated professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure high performance and professional growth.
  • Optimize use of resources and define clear performance objectives and indicators to measure impact of work and efforts.
  • Keep abreast of new trends, best practices and opportunities in the communication and stakeholder areas that may impact BDC.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, public relations, journalism, MBA, or a related field
  • Fifteen years of business experience, with five to eight years in a senior management role; experience in leading managers is key
  • Multidisciplinary experience in the field of corporate communications
  • Mobilizing leadership skills, managerial courage and strong executive presence and ease
  • Excellent writing and creative skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior leadership and interface effectively and positively with clients and stakeholders
  • Ease of managing change and transformation
  • Exceptional organization skills with the ability to work on multiple priorities simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Innovative, problem-solving mindset and ability to work under pressure
  • Political sensitivity and ability to think strategically
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent English and French skills, both oral and written
  • Good understanding of the financial / B2B / economic sector at the national level, an asset
