Payroll Specialist
Our client is searching for a critical thinking, Payroll Specialist to join their team in Calgary. The successful individual will be responsible for maintaining payroll functions, reporting and records;
preparing reports, reconciliations and supporting the People and Culture.
Your success will be defined by your ability to :
- Processes semi-monthly salary and hourly payroll for all employees
- Reviews timesheets and audit data to ensure compliance company policies and employment standards.
- Complete all payroll-related functions, including coordinating timely transmission of all standard and non-standard payments.
- Completing year-end processes and reporting requirements including tax forms (T4, T4 summary and WCB remittance).
- Reconcile and prepare required payroll remittances for all government and non-government related bodies.
- Keeping taxable benefit calculations up to date in payroll system and ensuring they agree to benefits reconciliation.
- Act as the Canadian Payroll Subject Matter Expert, responding to inquiries from management and employees and providing guidance and recommendations.
- Work closely with the People and Culture team to ensure all employee payroll information is correct and up to date (increment increases, retroactive pay, pay adjustments, etc.).
- Ensure employee confidence by protecting payroll operations and confidential information.
- Supports all internal and external audit requirements, assists with year-end balancing and reporting.
Your strengths include :
- Payroll Certification or equivalent is required
- A post-secondary diploma in accounting, business, human resources, or related field.
- Membership with Canadian Bookkeepers Association and / or Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada is an asset
- Membership with the Canadian Payroll Association is preferred
- Minimum of three to five years experience in Canadian payroll is required
- At least 2 years Intermediate to expert knowledge of AVANTI payroll / time systems is required.
- Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
- In depth knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills and the ability to multi-task to meet strict deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Ability to prepare general journal entries.
- Critical thinking skills and the ability to generate informational reports from raw data to support managerial decision making is required.
- High service orientation and ability to handle confidential and delicate personnel issues with diplomacy and confidentiality.
- Demonstrates self-motivation, confidence, discretion, and good judgement.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
