Indigenous (Canadian First Nations and Inuit) Language Interpreters
The Language Interpreters will be working closely with Indigenous people across Canada. They will be working closely with First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle class action.
We will be hiring in Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC & Quebec - Urban and Rural Positions (Some positions will be remote)
With various Indigenous languages and dialects spoken across diverse regions, each language reflects unique cultural, historical and geographical influences;
therefore, we are recruiting from all regions across Canada.
Key Responsibilities :
- Translate a variety of documents, including legal, educational and cultural materials, from English to an Indigenous Language and vice versa.
- Act as a liaison between Indigenous communities and non-Indigenous organizations to facilitate effective communication.
- Collaborate with Indigenous Elders, language experts and community members to ensure accuracy and cultural relevance in translations.
- Assist in language preservation initiatives, such as documentation, teaching and resource development.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance language proficiency, and cultural competency.
Qualifications :
- Fluency in a Canadian Indigenous Language and proficiency in English. (French would be considered an asset.)
- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions and protocols.
- Previous experience in translation, interpretation or related fields is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural and multilingual environment.
- Commitment to the preservation and revitalization of Indigenous languages and cultures.
