R&D Engineer/Scientist
JOB OVERVIEW The R&D Engineer / Scientist is responsible for developing new processes from proof-of-concept stage to piloting and improving PyroGenesis existing technologies.
The successful candidate should be able to actively and continuously provide new ideas and solutions in order to achieve the goals.
The ideal candidate should be able to efficiently work in a fast paced, fast-growing chemical process technology-based company.
RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS -Performing literature reviews. -Proposing new process and unit operation concepts. -Participating in the assembly of various lab scale and pilot scale experimental setups.
Prepare the setups for running experiments. -Planning and execution of experiments, gathering process data, and performing data analysis.
Preparation of test plans and test reports. -Communication with clients. -Leading lab scale and pilot plant trials with the technicians, ensuring good record keeping and reporting of the trials.
- Developing new CFD models for internal and external stakeholders. -Troubleshooting, proposing and implementing modifications that will improve the performance and reliability of the systems, -Assisting with the preparation of R&D grant proposals and technical proposals to support R&D projects.
- Perform other duties as required by the immediate supervisor and for which the person is qualified. EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS -Minimum Bachelor's degree (M.
Sc. or PhD preferred) in chemical engineering -Post-graduate degree and / or experience in in thermal plasma preferred -Experience in R&D projects, preferably in industrial R&D projects -Experience with simulation software for CFD and thermochemistry modeling (such as ANSYS / Fluent, Star-CCM+ , HSC, FactSage) -Ability to work with minimum supervision -Being passionate about research and development by showing initiative, actively looking for solutions, and demonstrating creativity and problem-solving abilities -Having teamwork spirit yet being able to work independently -Proficient in Microsoft office software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio (MS project is an asset) -Member of order of engineering of Quebec (OIQ) is an asset -Bilingual (written and spoken) EXPERIENCE -Minimum two years of working experience in industrial R&D (for Master's degree a minimum of 1 year experience) -Experience in developing new high temperature processes (experience with thermal plasma is an asset) -Experience in developing CFD models for high temperature processes including thermo-flow field development, radiation, kinetic models, and user defined functions through using proper coding languages such as C++.
