Union Position with APSSP Location to be determined. The Child & Youth Worker, reports to the Mental Health Lead and collaborates with the System Support Team, and supports the development and implementation of behaviour management strategies.
The Child & Youth Worker is assigned a number of schools within a geographic area and is responsible for creating a work plan in each setting.
They support the School Team and Parents to enhance outcomes for students struggling with social, emotional, mental health or behavioural difficulties.
Specific supports and / or interventions are determined through a Plan of Service and may include, individual, group or whole class support, or connecting with formal supports.
Duties & Responsibilities Conduct classroom / school observations and offer recommendations for students and / or support further investigation Gather relevant information about the students strengths and needs from student and school staff and to inform the Service Plan development Work with school staff in developing and analyzing baseline behaviour data Collaborate with school teams in the development and implementation of Collaborative Problem Solving, Positive Behaviour Support Plans, positive reinforcement schedules, behaviour rubrics and / or social emotional learning programs as deemed appropriate Meet with students individually to build relationships and deliver 6 session specific interventions as outlined in the Plan of Service.
Maintain progress notes on all meetings regarding referred students In collaboration with their Social Work colleagues, support families in accessing relevant services such as, Pediatrician, Telepsych consults, recreation opportunities, etc.
- Meet weekly with the School Team to evaluate and monitor ongoing progress of the student Build capacity with school staffs around Mental Health Literacy, and Behaviour Management Strategies Model and encourage the transfer of knowledge in Mental Health Literacy and behaviour management with other students as appropriate Support the Mental Health & Behaviour System Support Team in various initiatives, le.
