What you’ll do

  • Supervises designated staff by performing duties such as conducting performance evaluations and co-ordinating the workflow of the area by performing duties such as distributing work assignments, establishing priorities and ensuring completion.
  • Receives various requests such as vacation, submits to designated staff, provides input as to staff schedules / coverage, records hours into payroll logbook and forwards to designated staff for processing.
  • Ensures safety standards and procedures are adhered to by performing duties such as monitoring that proper apparel is worn such as gowns, gloves, boots, aprons and goggles and ensuring that autopsies on hazardous cases are performed in the isolation room and chemicals are handled correctly in accordance with Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • Ascertains that Employee Incident and Accident Investigation Report forms are completed and forwarded to designated staff and participates in accident investigations as directed by Administration, by collecting information such as identifying unsafe conditions or procedures and recommending corrective actions.
  • Performs administrative duties such as updating standards and procedures by drafting revisions and forwarding to designated staff for approval;

updates manuals with new material as required.

  • Liaises with designated staff and coroner in the determination of number of autopsies that can be performed within a particular timeframe, by providing input as to number of personnel available, duration of procedure such as fixation of organs and other events such as educational rounds.
  • Creates and maintains morgue admission, discharge and autopsy records by performing duties such as creating case file, ensuring all pertinent documentation is complete and enclosed such as picture, autopsy number and coroner number.

Ensures pertinent information is entered into logbook such as appropriate signatures for release of body to confirm that body moved from morgue.

Lists clothing articles and personal effects, places in bag with appropriate name and identification number for investigation or retrieval by appropriate personnel.

  • Conducts cadaver count and matches identification number and name to those admissions / discharges recorded in morgue log to ensure that body has been moved to appropriate area / agency.
  • Arranges for viewing of bodies for identification purposes, by placing body in viewing / video room, setting up video camera on face portion and viewing body from observation room to ensure picture clarity.

What you bring

Qualifications

Grade 12, completion of human anatomy courses plus three years' recent, related experience including one year in a supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have : Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
