Job Overview

The Procurement Manager will be responsible for the purchasing process and policies; as well as the actual purchasing or providing guidance to those making purchases to ensure appropriate approval, quoting and policy is followed.

The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact between a business and its suppliers. They must be an excellent negotiator with in-depth knowledge of supply chain structures and must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of a business and reconcile differences in understanding and vision.

An effective procurement manager must be able to use diplomacy to keep various groups within a company on the same page and working towards the same goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • External Suppliers :
  • Using superb analytical skills, the procurement manager identifies potential suppliers, screens them, and negotiates favorable payment terms with selected suppliers.
  • After formalizing the supply contract with the aid of legal professionals, the procurement manager monitors supplier performance to ensure contractual obligations are met and to help make the supply procurement process as cost-effective and efficient as possible.
  • Internal Suppliers :
  • Aside from dealing with external suppliers, the procurement manager also works with managers, accounts payable, accounts receivable, accounting, IT, fleet / garages, and executives within the company to engage in procurement projects.
  • By being involved early in the process, the procurement manager can ensure essential supplies are being procured.
  • Furthermore, the procurement manager monitors changes in the industry and develops forecasts to determine appropriate budgets.

These forecasts are used to develop comprehensive strategies to further the company's operational goals.

  • Negotiate contracts, policies, and deadlines with suppliers and vendors.
  • Monitor prices by product and vendor to predict and account for financial fluctuations.
  • Manage flow of goods, services, and supplies for optimum production, analyzing and adapting internal policies.
  • Prepare and process purchase orders and maintain documentation of the acquisition of goods.
  • Run reports using the BI tool database to facilitate reports using BI for fleet maintenance expense trends.
  • Manage other group purchasers for timely arrival of goods and services while monitoring adherence to purchasing policies.
  • Analyze costs and determine effective cost reduction strategies. Using these strategies, make recommendations to the business and implement action plans through projects or policies to obtain cost reductions.
  • Purchasing Scope : Utilities, Facilities, Fuel, Office supplies, Uniforms, Safety (PPE), Communications, Miscellaneous.
  • This role does not have any direct reports.

Requirements

  • Position falls under the SATL group and is an in-office role.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, finance, logistics, engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Negotiation skills (negotiating contracts, payment terms, and deadlines with suppliers and vendors).
  • Analytical skills (analyze costs, forecast budgets, and develop cost-reduction strategies).
  • Communication and interpersonal skills (required at all levels of the business, including executives, managers, and other internal stakeholders).
  • Attention to detail.
