The role :
As Grant Development Specialist you will be responsible for all aspects of raising funds from foundations, corporations, and government sources.

Your typical day would include :
- Research : Conducting proper research of government, corporate and foundation granting programs. This may include written correspondence, phone calls and virtual meetings.
- Database & Project Management : Maintaining a database and deadline calendar of quality prospective funders; prioritizing and evaluating for current and potential clients.
- Grant Writing : Developing award-winning grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders.
- Budgeting : Producing realistic, detailed, well researched budgets.
- Copywriting : Developing copy for letters, fundraising marketing materials and funder presentations.
- Client Communication and Engagement : Cultivating strong relationships with clients and providing proactive support and recommendations to optimize their chances of successful grant acquisition.
Occasional Travel Requirements :
Although we primarily operate virtually, in-person interactions with clients and team members provide significant value.
As a Grant Research Specialist, you can expect to travel 2-5 times per year for company conferences and to meet with geographically distant clients.
For local clients, you will have more frequent opportunities for face-to-face meetings.
What success would look like
In 6 months You fully understand our clients’ needs and profiles and have a steady flow of funding prospects lined up for each.
You are proactively following the latest announcements and remain current in the various emerging opportunities available.
You are able to think strategically and develop award-winning proposals that WOW funders.
By 12 months You have won several grants for our clients, understand what it takes to be successful and demonstrate your skills as a mentor and trainer to new hires.
You are fully living and spreading our company culture, and are bringing creative ideas for new funding models.
You possess :
- Strong development and stakeholder relationship skills
- The ability to craft creative funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner
- Excellent persuasive writing, analytical, and research skills
- Experience in creating performance measurement and / or evaluation frameworks
- A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants
- Self-motivation, are detail-oriented, and highly-organized
- An ability to work well under pressure, exercise good judgment, and meet multiple competing deadlines
In the past you’ve :
- Earned a degree in communications, journalism, English literature, public health or related field
- Successfully secured 5 and 6 figure grants
- Worked in the non-profit sector for at least 5 years and have fundraising experience
- Excelled in your oral and written communication skills
- Been able to adapt quickly to new technologies while working in remote settings
