Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in :
- Provide geotechnical technical direction on multidisciplinary alternate delivery projects (DB, PDB,
- Experience working in DB environment delivering Geotechnical Engineering Design Reports, Construction Impact Assessments, Geotechnical Instrumentation and Monitoring Plans, Response Action Plans, design calculations, drawings, specifications
- Be part of the GHD geostructural team's evolvement towards new modern innovation ways to deliver project delivery models that may include Design-Build, Technical Advisor Role, and conventional Design-Bid-Build (preliminary and detailed design).
Lead medium to large size soil-structure interaction design projects, particularly in underground structures and foundations.
- Be a collaborative project leader both in the pursuit and delivery phase of the project. Pursuit and Delivery collaboration will be focused on our key markets in Transportation, Water, Energy and Resources, and Environment.
- Review field and laboratory test results from ground investigations for design purposes as well as interpretation and preparation of Geotechnical Baseline and / or Interpretive reports (GBRs / GIRs).
- Hands-on experience and experience in supervising others in the use of geotechnical and tunneling finite element modelling software, such as PLAXIS, FLAC, an asset
- Carrying out seismic design of underground structures in accordance with relevant Codes and Standards in Canada and the United States.
- Site supervision experience for infrastructure and building projects with focus on underground structures such as tunnels and underground stations.
- Be a collaborative partner with other parts of our business including specifically a collaborative partner with our Eastern and Western Canada Geotechnical Engineering businesses.
- Build effective relationships with Team Leaders, Business Group Leaders, Service Line Leaders and other key people.
- Provide technical leadership on complex and special geotechnical and geostructural engineering projects throughout our business (specific focus on Ontario).
This includes major ongoing and upcoming transportation projects in the Greater Toronto Area.
Include putting forward and delivering innovative R&D projects and new design approaches using advanced soil-structure interaction numerical modelling.

- Contribute to the recruiting of key staff and will assist the team with new ideas on how we should grow the geostructural capabilities of the group.
- Manage a wide variety of projects related but not limited to transportation, rail, civil municipal, MTO and commercial development.
- Manage project schedules and budgets, while managing and maintaining excellent client relations.
- To provide expertise and support for geotechnical engineering aspects of projects throughout the design, tendering, and construction stages including, but not limited to : Shallow and deep foundations (structures including buildings, bridges, embankments, etc.
small to large scale and ground improvements settlement analyses engineered fills slope stability and embankment assessments shoring trenching tunnelling construction groundwater control / dewatering requirements
Key Accountabilities :
- Proven ability to develop good client relationships with focus on customer service;
- Ability to produce high quality deliverables, particularly proposals, design and assessment reports, drawings and specifications;
- Ability to establish a network of contacts of clients (internal and external) and working partners (contractors, owners, JV Design firms, Universities);
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality projects on time and within budget;
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong leadership and team development skills, cooperation with team members with sharing of information and knowledge;
- Attention to details;
- Analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Very good knowledge of national and international regulations (codes and standards) and technical references in geotechnical, and geostructural design for different types of infrastructure
What you will bring to the team :
- University graduate with degree in geotechnical, geological or civil (geotechnical / geostructural) engineering
- A Professional Engineering (P. Eng) license with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is required.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in geotechnical / geostructural engineering field
- Experience in major alternate delivery mode infrastructure projects, construction engineering and complex geostructural design including retaining walls, deep foundations, deep excavations, underground infrastructures, roads and bridges structures and high-rise buildings with deep basement founded level
- A high level of understanding on geostructural design including analytical, empirical and numerical methods and also advanced knowledge in soil and rock mechanics and structural elements, such as steel and plain and reinforced concrete elements.
This includes numerical modeling constitutive models and structural elements to be implement in soil-structures and geostructural stress-strain analysis for design
- Ability to lead and cooperate with a team in various environments, as well as work independently
- Proficiency with advanced 2D and 3D static and dynamic soil-structures interaction and geostructural design software such as Plaxis 2D et 3D, FLAC2D et 3D, Roc Science (RS2 / RS3, RSpile, Slide2 / 3), DeepXcav, ENSOFT (LPile, Group), Geostudio (SlopeW, SigmaW, SeepW)
- Strong written and oral communication (English) skills
- Strong analytical / technical, project management and report writing skills
- Desire to provide excellent practical client service and a commitment to technical excellence; and,
- Must be well organized, have the ability to manage and prioritize several
