This unique Senior Accounting position is instrumental in navigating intricate technical accounting complexities, gaining a deep understanding of our client's performance and financial status, and emerging risks.
Drawing on your expertise in technical accounting, and extensive experience in long-term forecasting, budgeting processes, and financial reporting, you will lead detailed research efforts and meticulously prepare accounting and reporting memoranda.

- Lead Monthly and Quarterly Close Processes : Manage internal reporting, financial forecasting, and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure Compliance and Reporting : Prepare quarterly lender reports and oversee tax and debt compliance activities.
- Technical Accounting Expertise : Research and prepare technical accounting memoranda and position papers for complex transactions and new accounting standards, liaising with senior management and external auditors.
- Contract Review and Analysis : Assess accounting treatment and financial implications of significant contracts.
- Budgeting and Planning : Collaborate with FP&A on annual budgets and planning.
- Tax and Cash Management : Engage with CRA, provincial tax authorities, and internal / external tax consultants on tax matters and cash management, including shareholder distributions.
- System Enhancements and Testing : Contribute to system enhancements and upgrades through testing and process improvements.
- Continuous Improvement : Drive process enhancements and share best practices to foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
- Mentorship : Provide guidance and mentorship to co-op students supporting the accounting team.
Requirements :
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in financial reporting, analysis, and technical accounting within a complex environment (multiple entities, subsidiaries, and business units).
- Industry experience spanning mining, energy, oil and gas, or infrastructure.
- Previous experience working in public accounting firms such as Big 4 would be ideal.
- A deep understanding of IFRS and its application on complex accounting transactions, and knowledge of US GAAP is an asset.
- Strong understanding of ERP systems and proficiency in financial forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
