WSP is currently seeking a Junior Building Science Technologist to join our Vancouver, BC team. The duties required include both in-office, and considerable field work.
The role is primarily focused on the building condition assessment services conducted by the department. This team is involved in conducting review and reporting for a large base of strata clients as well as supporting government, institutional investors and building owners across a wide variety of building types with pre-purchase advice and capital planning.
Building assessments are typically performed in the Vancouver area but there are regular requirements for wider provincial and outer provincial travel often requiring over night stay.
Due to the wider department's services, there will be some exposure to restoration work.

What you can expect to do here :
Reporting to the department manager, this position will be responsible for :
- Perform property condition assessments and depreciation reports, including site work and report preparation
- Creation of capital plans setting out projected building expenditure.
- Assist the preparation of building investigation reports, and construction documents
- Conduct building investigations and field reviews to determine design and repair options
- Perform non-invasive investigations, which may include ladder work, working at heights, working in confined spaces, and making field measurements
- Perform construction site visits, documenting observations and field-testing results
- Make contributions to company knowledge management and practice systems
- Short-term (out of town work) travel is required
What you'll bring to WSP :
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in the building science (or appropriate engineering field) industry.
- College Diploma in Engineering or engineering degree in Civil, Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, Architectural Science or a construction-related discipline
- Registered or eligible for registration in ASTTBC or EGBC
- Knowledge of building materials, construction processes, structures and mechanical and electrical system is desirable
- Ability to gather and diagnose information, interpret data and drawings
- Ability to demonstrate self organisation
- Excellent communicator, with strong verbal and written skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, are considered essential
- Experience in Consulting Engineering, conducting building assessments or a related field is an asset
Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations) : $60,000 to $82,600
