is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system.

We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier.

Our Enterprise Lean Centre of Excellence is looking for a Manager, Lean CoE that will be responsible for implementing Lean strategy deployment and supporting Lean continuous improvement initiatives across Metrolinx.

The Manager will coach teams in their efforts to deploy Lean thinking and behaviours and support Lean projects across the organization.

Lean CoE Managers work as part of a blended team of Lean SMEs to support the deployment of the Lean Management Model. The Manager, Lean CoE will actively collaborate with the CoE team and diverse business department stakeholders of varying levels of seniority.

They support the development and implementation of a Lean framework that drives improvement across the enterprise in all core KPls - Safety, Quality, Cost, Productivity, Sustainability.

What will I be doing?

  • Responsible for managing and driving continuous improvement thinking across assigned portfolio / s by developing maturity divisional roadmaps and supports plans.
  • Provides coaching support to diverse teams to ensure that Lean approaches are being used within the assigned portfolio / s.
  • Have regular touch points with the assigned portfolio / s to understand the current state and take initiative to identify process gaps and guide them to implement Lean initiatives.
  • Influence leaders within the assigned portfolio / s to adopt Lean thinking and to promote it within their teams and departments.
  • Champions and leads the Lean management function within the assigned portfolio / s.
  • Supports the senior leadership team and executive members providing expert advice, influencing decisions, and making recommendations on Lean management issues.
  • Deploys and develops Lean Management capabilities across the Metrolinx Enterprise to embed an empowered culture of continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Provides advanced subject-matter expertise on Lean management practices for stakeholders in executive, management, supervisory and frontline levels and in the areas of complex projects.
  • Cultivate and sustain effective working relationships and regular communications with third party vendors, key stakeholders, external agencies, and diverse interest groups.
  • Partners with key stakeholders and cross-functional teams to build internal Lean capabilities within Metrolinx. Facilitates and coaches the mapping of key business processes and identify policies, procedures and business practices that can be improved, simplified, and optimized.
  • Designs, implements, and tracks the impact of Lean initiatives, using the LEAN process improvement model including, identifying opportunities, implementing solutions, and sustaining change through development to dashboards and metrics.
  • Works with internal enterprise-wide stakeholders to facilitate the Lean review of business processes, in an effort to identify areas of improvement and best practices.
  • Promotes the usage of Lean principle, practices, techniques, such as, Control Rooms, A3, PDCA, 5S, Value Stream Mapping and execution of Kaizen projects.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a Degree in Business Engineering, Administration, Analytics or a related discipline, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience with Lean or Six Sigma, driving transformational change in a large and highly complex organization that involves Operations Excellence, Program Management, Process Engineering, Change Management, or a blend of these disciplines.
  • Advanced Lean and / or Six Sigma training (e.g., Black Belt or Green Belt). Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt certification or equivalent would be an asset.
  • Experience delivering Lean or Six Sigma training and coaching to operations, corporate teams including, front-line, corporate functions and senior leadership teams.

Background in construction projects and capital projects is an asset.

  • Senior level managerial expertise to provide leadership and coaching to an operating or functional unit within the assigned business portfolio / s.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral / written communication skills and ability to synthesize complex information into simple actionable insights and communicate at all organizational levels.
  • Highly developed relationship management and negotiation skills, as well as keen political acuity.
  • Prior experience leading and coaching multi-disciplinary senior level professionals and / or managers, in the development and implementation of complex continuous improvement projects, using Lean techniques.
  • Experience with transportation, transit construction infrastructure and / or an alternative Financing and Procurement projects would be beneficial.
  • Proven leadership, interpersonal, and mentoring skills, with the ability to clearly articulate creative ideas and direction to executives, senior leaders, and staff.
  • Ability to conduct program analysis, identifies Key Performance Indicators, and builds management dashboards.
  • Skills to liaise with all levels within the organization; to work effectively with Project management, including work planning, monitoring and evaluation expertise, to manage multiple projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and presentation skills, with ability to obtain buy-in with key stakeholders at all levels of the organization, and influence decision-making of leaders and specialists across multiple sectors.
  • Experience packaging complex projects for executive-level or similar presentations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Program Management, Quality Systems, Lean Six Sigma and Continuous Improvement Methodologies.
