Job Summary

Research Coordinator Providence Research

JOB SUMMARY

The Research Coordinator will work at the direction of the leadership of Providence Research to support and enhance discovery, translational and clinical research activities within the Providence Health Care community.

The primary focus of this position will be in coordinating research activities which generate synergies for the Providence research community.

For example, the Research Coordinator will support research centers, labs, investigators, staff and trainees in the performance of research activities.

The Research Coordinator will engage with and be responsive to research leads and their staff in operationalizing improvements in the research structure at Providence.

The initial focus for the position will include managing the coordination of biobanking activities at Providence and coordination with provincial efforts.

The role will provide room for growth for the successful applicant, and it is anticipated that the role will expand to include research activities beyond biobanking.

The successful applicant will have exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, a high level of attention to detail, and excellent writing skills.

This position is for onsite work.

Organizational Status

The Research Coordinator will report directly to the Research Director at Providence Research.

The candidate will be based at St Paul’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of the University of British Columbia in downtown Vancouver, Canada.

Work Performed

  • Research Coordinator works closely with the Research Director in identifying work priorities, developing, implementing and writing policies and facilitating the research activities at Providence Research.
  • Responsible for the management and coordination of biobanking activities at Providence Research.
  • Oversees the statistics on biobanking data and resources.
  • Independently acquires and complies information from multiple sources related to research activities at Providence Research, as needed.
  • Provides defined support to the Research Leadership, which includes writing and editing documents and is an active member in meetings providing valuable input and knowledge
  • Serves as a resource for biobanks operating at Providence (e.g., knowledge of best practices).
  • Communicates with the various biobank leads (e.g., principal investigators, managers, coordinators) and other key stakeholders.
  • Works with stakeholders in the development and execution of meaningful knowledge translation activities.
  • Assists the Research Director in the development and updating of biobanking protocols, procedures and related documents.
  • Project planning around research activities including implementing recommendations.
  • Develops, fosters and strengthens relationships with both external and internal partners and the research community.
  • Conducts other duties as required.

Consequence of Error / Judgement

Carelessness, lack of organization or professionalism during the performance of duties outlined could jeopardize the progress of research activities, and negatively impact funding and the reputation of the research community.

This role will work under strict confidentiality due to the nature of the data holdings. Any breach in data security would place the reputation and future of Providence Research as well as its partner organization at risk.

Accuracy is extremely important because errors in the incumbent’s work will have a significant effect on the reliability information.

The release of erroneous information may have implications that affect the organization, the research community, partners and stakeholders.

Supervision Received

Works with considerable latitude under the direction of the Research Director.

Supervision Given

May provide direction to more junior employees (e.g., co-op students, research technicians) and other members of the team.

Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous documented experience biobanking (preferably with human biospecimens)
  • Experience using biospecimen management software (specifically OpenSpecimen) and clinical data management software (specifically REDCap)
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload, handle multiple assignments effectively, and set and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability in preparing research documents, reports, and communication materials
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail
