We have been part-time caretaking for my 62-year-old father who was diagnosed with early dementia due to medical complications they are still testing for.
One thing we know boosts his mood is social interaction, but consistency is what puts him at ease. We are burnt out from doing a lot of the financial and admin support behind the scenes and work full time.
While he is on a waitlist for the public health assisted living housing we are looking for individuals to help him kill time, chat and discover new hobbies.
Something he has a hard time doing with myself and my husband because we are associated with "productivity" and "admin" in his mind.
He is kind, and gentle, used to be an extrovert, and french is his first language but speaks English well. Ideally we would like people we can contract out to do re-occurring visits to go for coffee, play bocce ball, go for a walk and talk as well as encourage him to open up about what he enjoys.
