Duties

The Regional Communications Officer provides services to victims, their representatives, advocacy groups, media, criminal justice partners and the public.

They accompany observers including registered victims federal institutions, respond to media and public enquiries, and manage a program of public education by delivering information sessions to criminal justice partners, stakeholders, and the general public.

The position requires on-site presence at least two days a week.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to establish a pool of qualified candidates for future vacancies. The pool may be used to staff positions on a permanent and / or temporary basis within the Parole Board of Canada in the Quebec Region (Montreal).

The tenure may vary depending on the position being staffed.

EDUCATION

A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are :

  • A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
  • An acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience.

E1 - Significant* experience in analyzing information to explain procedures, policies or law.

E2 - Significant* experience in interpreting and applying legislation, policies or procedures.

Significant experience refers to the breadth and depth of experience and is defined as a combination of time spent doing the activity, as well as type (range, scope, and complexity) of work handled related to the experience criteria.

Applying refers to the execution of a task that is within the procedure, legislation or policies.

ASSET EDUCATION

AED1 : A post-secondary diploma (professional or college) in a field related to the duties of the position (such as; social sciences, legal sciences, law, politics, public administration or communication, etc.).

AED2 : Grade or certificate from a recognized university institution with acceptable specialization in criminology, sociology, psychology, social work, communications or other fields relevant to the position.

ASSET EXPERIENCE

AE1 : Experience in providing services to victims of crime.

AE2 : Experience working within the criminal justice system.

AE3 : Experience working in communications or information services.

AE4 : Experience working with or making presentations to stakeholders and partners.

AE5 : Experience in writing and editing communication products.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Be willing and able to travel (this may include being away overnight).
  • Be willing and able to work irregular hours when traveling.
  • Be willing and able to work long hours on occasion.
  • Be willing to travel on short notice.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

  • Must have a valid drivers licence and be able to drive.
  • Be willing and able to travel to various locations including the National Capital Region, various federal institutions, community correctional centres and parole offices.
  • Because the incumbent of this position is exposed on a daily basis to disturbing, often offensive, information (particularly descriptions of sex offences or violent offences), the person appointed to the position must be able and willing to carry out his / her tasks objectively while exposed to this information.
