WHAT’S THE JOB?

The Second Cook contributes to the overall success of the Culinary team. Involved in preparing the dinner menu, the Second Cook is responsible for all starch and vegetable items required for the menu.

The Second Cook will work with the First Cook to ensure that all product meets quality standards as set out by Culinary leadership.

The position involves a remote work lifestyle with a 14 day on / 14 day off rotation in a mine camp setting with the following amenities :

• All meals and accommodation provided free of charge

Key responsibilities include :

• Maintaining a safe and clean working environment at all times
• Preparing all accompanying starch and vegetable items as required on the menu
• Producing other items such as soups, hot and cold sauces, and other preparations as directed
• Presenting and maintaining menu items in the hot line during dinner service
• Labelling and dating of all products prepared for service as required
• Following proper storage and rotation of all food supplies.
• Completing all HACCP and Production logs as required
• Performing end-of-shift cleaning, sweeping, and mopping of workstation

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

• Must have the ability to successfully pass drug an alcohol screening upon arrival
• legal and illegal substances tested for include alcohol, amphetamines, cannabis and cannabis related products, cocaine, ecstasy, methamphetamines, opiates, phencyclidine, hydromorphone, 6-monoacetylmorphine, fentanyl, oxycodone, etc.
• Must be based within the Thunder Bay - Sault Ste. Marie District
• Previous prep work experience is required.
• Must have a current Food Safe certificate.
• Large scale camp cooking experience is an asset.
• High standards in maintaining a clean and organized Kitchen.
• Be able to handle the following physical demands :
• Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
• Climb ladders or stairs.
• Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended lengths of time.
• Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands.
• Perform work with arms at full length.
• Work with arms above shoulder height.

Work Schedule and Remuneration :

Second Cooks work on a rotational schedule of 14 days on / 14 days off. They may be expected to work weekdays, weekends, and general holidays.

Wages are paid on an hourly basis and include a starting rate of $20.20.
